Emerald Waterways has officially christened their newest river ship, Emerald Radiance, in Porto, Portugal. Gill Williams, a UK travel agent served as Godmother. This year is a busy one for Emerald, as they have welcomed three new Star-ships to the fleet, bringing the total number to seven. Emerald Destiny was christened last month in Vienna, and Emerald Liberté is scheduled to be christened in France in September.
Radiance is the line’s most intimate ship so far, with a capacity of just 112 guests. Riverview Suites, a new stateroom category, are located at the rear of the ship on the Horizon Deck and feature 300 square feet of living space and panoramic windows on two sides. A serenity pool on the sun deck provides a great spot for relaxing and cooling off under the warm Iberian sun. Guests also have the choice to dine in two different restaurants: Reflections, which is the main dining room, and The Terrace which offers a light breakfast and lunch. All vessels also have an onboard hairdresser, massage therapy room, and fitness area.
The newly christened ship will explore the Douro region of Portugal, which is known for its sloped valleys dotted with vineyards and quaint villages. The 8-day Secrets of the Douro voyage sails roundtrip from the northern city of Porto. Highlights include a trip to Spain’s Roman city of Salamanca, an excursion to the Coa Valley Prehistoric Museum in Pocinho, a trip to Mateus Palace, and a city tour of Porto, including the numerous wine caves of Vila Nova de Gaia.
Emerald Waterways has a family of seven Star-ships which offer cruises in Europe, the Mekong, and Russia.
