Celebrity Cruises charts new course for kids’ health

Celebrity Cruises announced today that they have entered into a partnership with The Nerdel Company in an effort to teach healthy choices to three to eight year old cruise passsengers.

Celebrity Cruises has had a focus on wellness going back to the Celebrity Century and the once much-loved Thalassotherapy Pool. Now Celebrity Cruises is introducing wellness and smart choices to children through interactive programs and a puppet named NERDEL.

โ€œWe know our guests’ vacation time is precious, which is why we focus on delivering a luxurious, relaxing and fun experience onboard,” said Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, Senior Vice President, Hotel Operations. โ€œBy teaming with NERDEL and The Nerdel Company to offer unique and engaging games and activities, we are hoping to play a part in instilling wellness-focused values in children by empowering them with the knowledge that they need to make better nutritional choices and take charge of their physical fitness, from an early age.”

The fascination with puppets transcends generations and appeals to people of all ages. The star of The Nerdel Company is none other than NERDEL, a puppet known for his endearing, lovable โ€œpersonality.โ€ Parents can accompany their children to watch live puppet performances and there will be opportunities for children to stage their own puppet shows and learn the art of puppeteering.

The goal of this collaboration between Celebrity Cruises and The Nerdel Company is to teach children how to make better nutritional choices and to help them learn about healthy eating, healthy cooking and physical fitness through interactive fun and hands-on learning.

Celebrity Cruises, an innovator into the culinary aspect of cruising, will offer the children a basic culinary experience which includes a video with an Italian chef puppet by the name of Chef Mangel, followed by a healthy pizza-making class.

Celebrity introduced the NERDEL experience aboard their newest ship, the Celebrity Silhouette, this summer during the European sailings.
Celebrity plans to introduce the program on its other ships by October 15, 2011, except for the Celebrity Xpedition.
