Norwegian Luna Makes Its Grand Debut at PortMiami

The Surprising Ways Norwegian Luna Stands Apart From Its Sister Ships

Norwegian Cruise Line just launched its newest ship, and it’s truly out of this world — literally. Norwegian Luna brings a space-and-moon theme to Caribbean cruising, along with a lineup of brand-new shows and activities you won’t find anywhere else at sea.

What Makes Norwegian Luna Special?

Norwegian Luna is the latest ship in the line’s Prima Plus Class. It draws its entire identity from outer space. The design, entertainment, and onboard experiences all tie back to the celestial theme.

The hull features the 12 zodiac constellations. On the bow, a stunning moon image takes center stage. As ELLE, the hull artist and Luna’s godmother, said during the ship’s March 27 christening ceremony in Miami: “And on the bow, the focal point, you’ll find the moon, which — along with the stars — has guided travelers for millennia.”

Inside, the space theme continues. Cabins feature star-spangled murals in deep blues and purples. A tall silver moon sculpture stands on Deck 8. Every detail feels intentional.

New Entertainment on Norwegian Luna

Luna delivers a strong lineup of brand-new shows. These productions were created specifically for this ship and aren’t available on any other NCL vessel.

Elton: A Celebration of Elton John

This show is a showstopper. A cast member dressed in a full astronaut suit spins upside down around a center-stage pole while the cast belts out “Rocket Man.” The production features iconic Elton John costumes, powerful singing, and a stage filled with pianos.

A Tribute to Eagles

Eagles fans are in for a treat. This show at the Luna Theater takes the audience through the band’s greatest hits. Songs like “Desperado,” “Already Gone,” and a thrilling take on the guitar solo from “Hotel California” are all part of the set list. The cast also shares stories about the band between songs.

LunaTique: Pop Circus

This adults-only show (21+) runs inside The Improv at Sea club. It mixes circus performers, pop hits, and a special cocktail menu. Songs like Kylie Minogue’s “Can’t Get You Out of My Head” are performed with plenty of flair and humor.

There is a $45 per person cover charge for this show. That fee includes drinks and a souvenir glass delivered right to your table. Fair warning — the cast does pull a few audience members up on stage!

HIKO: Innovation Meets Wonder

“HIKO” is a high-tech, acrobatics-driven production. It follows an original character through a sci-fi-inspired story. The show features aerial dance, trampolines, an original musical score, and 3D digital mapping that adds stunning visual layers to every scene.

New Activities on the Upper Decks

Luna isn’t just about great shows. The upper decks are packed with new ways to have fun.

  • Moon Climber: An obstacle course that rises high above Deck 19.
  • Luna Midway: Carnival-style games on Deck 18, available for a fee that varies per game.
  • Horizon Park: Located on Deck 19, just above the Kids Aqua Park. Features loungers, a semi-covered patio, cornhole, and wide-open panoramic views.

The Aqua Slidecoaster — a thrilling water slide and roller coaster hybrid — also returns from sister ship Norwegian Aqua. It remains one of the most unique rides at sea.

How Big Is Norwegian Luna?

Norwegian Luna holds up to 3,565 guests at double occupancy. The ship stretches 1,056 feet long with a gross tonnage of 154,140. Like Norwegian Aqua, it’s 10% bigger than earlier Prima Class ships.

NCL also used guest feedback from Aqua to improve Luna. Mark Kansley, the line’s Chief Experience Officer, explained the process simply: “And with the new platform, there’s some learnings, there’s some feedback that we ourselves get as we operate the ship, and other (feedback) we hear from our guests… ‘This is great, but perhaps this would enhance it.'”

One example: NCL added a staircase between Decks 17 and 18 to make it easier to move between the pool area and upper-deck activities. At the Surfside Cafe & Grill, they also removed some partitions and added 70 more seats — a big improvement for a busy dining spot.

Where Does Norwegian Luna Sail?

Norwegian Luna sails Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries out of Miami. These sailings run through April 2027. After that, the ship moves to New York.

One of the highlights on these routes is Norwegian’s private Bahamian island, Great Stirrup Cay. The island is in the middle of a major upgrade right now.

  • Vibe Shore Club: An adults-only beach retreat with cushy loungers, shade, and private beach access. Day passes start at $100.
  • Great Life Lagoon: Features two swim-up bars. Opened in December 2025.
  • Great Tides Waterpark: Coming this summer, with 19 water slides and cliff jumping.

Norwegian is also building a permanent two-ship pier at Great Stirrup Cay. Currently, guests must ride tender boats to shore. The new pier will make visits more reliable and less weather-dependent.

As Kansley summed it up: “So if you want the boisterous, the high-activity, interactive experience on the island, you should be able to have it. But if you wanted… the more placid, the more sedate experience you should be able to have it.”

How Much Does a Norwegian Luna Cruise Cost?

Cruises on Norwegian Luna currently start at $412 per person, based on double occupancy. That price includes taxes, fees, and port expenses. It also covers accommodations, many onboard meals, and live entertainment.

Prices will vary depending on the sailing dates and cabin type you choose. Checking NCL’s website directly will give you the most current fares available.
