Massive New Star Princess Arrives at the Port of Los Angeles
Star Princess has arrived on the West Coast! Princess Cruises’ newest ship made its debut at the Port of Los Angeles on April 29, 2026.
Star Princess Arrives in Los Angeles
The Star Princess is a Sphere-class ship. It runs on liquefied natural gas (LNG), making it one of the more eco-friendly ships at sea. This maiden call to San Pedro marks a big moment for both Princess Cruises and the Port of Los Angeles.

“Bringing the Star Princess to Los Angeles for her West Coast debut is a proud moment for Princess Cruises,” said Princess Cruises Chief Marketing Officer Marie Lee.
A Partnership Over 60 Years in the Making
Princess Cruises and the Port of Los Angeles go way back. Their relationship stretches more than six decades. In fact, Princess launched its very first cruise from this same port back in 1965 — a trip to the Mexican Riviera.
Port of Los Angeles Executive Director Gene Seroka was enthusiastic about the new ship’s arrival. “Princess Cruises has been an important and invaluable partner to the Port of Los Angeles for more than 60 years,” he said. “For Princess to add yet another cruise ship sailing from our LA Waterfront is terrific news and a notable milestone in our decades-long partnership.”
No other cruise line has sailed from the Los Angeles Cruise Terminal more often over the last decade. Princess has logged nearly 800 ship visits to the port since 2015.
Where Will Star Princess Sail From LA?
The Star Princess won’t be in Los Angeles year-round. It will spend summer 2026 sailing Alaska itineraries. But it will be back on the West Coast before you know it.
Here’s a quick look at what’s planned for LA departures:
Fall 2026
The ship returns to Los Angeles in October 2026. It will kick off a 16-day Panama Canal cruise from the port.
Winter 2026–2027
Star Princess heads to the Caribbean for the winter season. It will sail warm-weather routes before returning to California.
Spring 2027
In April 2027, the ship comes back to LA for two sailings. Guests can choose between a Mexican Riviera cruise and a Pacific Coast itinerary.
Fall 2027
Star Princess is set to return to Los Angeles in October 2027. Another 16-day Panama Canal voyage is on the schedule.
Other Princess Ships Sailing From LA
Star Princess isn’t the only Princess ship calling Los Angeles home. Three other ships are also scheduled to sail from the port in the near future:
- Discovery Princess
- Emerald Princess
- Crown Princess
These ships offer a mix of itineraries. Destinations include Mexico, the California Coast, and Hawaii.
LA Is a Major Cruise Hub
The Port of Los Angeles had a record-breaking year in 2025. The port welcomed 241 cruise ship calls and 1.6 million passengers. That activity pumped an estimated $300 million into the local economy.
Each cruise ship visit generates roughly $1.3 million in local revenue. That money stays within a two-mile radius of the port. It’s a big deal for the San Pedro community and the greater LA area.
As Marie Lee put it, “Los Angeles has always held a special place in our history.” With Star Princess now part of the fleet sailing from LA, West Coast cruisers have even more options to explore the world.
