Carnival Firenze Finally Sets Sail After 21-Hour IT Delay

The Carnival Firenze is back on the water after a frustrating start to its latest cruise. The ship had to delay its departure from Long Beach for more than 20 hours due to computer problems.

The 2021-built vessel was supposed to leave at 3:30 PM on Monday, December 15, 2025. Instead, passengers spent an extra night at the cruise terminal while Carnival’s tech team worked to fix the issues.

What Happened to Cause the Delay?

According to ship tracking data, the Firenze finally left Long Beach at 1:20 PM on Tuesday, December 16, 2025. That’s a full 21 hours behind schedule for what should have been a routine departure.

John Heald, Carnival’s Brand Ambassador, explained the problem to concerned guests. “It is Internet connectivity, and I know the teams are working very hard, but I can also say without doubt that the guests are having so much fun,” he said when answering questions on Tuesday.

The IT problems affected the ship’s ability to sail safely. Modern cruise ships rely heavily on computer systems for navigation and communication.

How the Itinerary Changed

The six-night Mexican Riviera cruise had to be shortened due to the delay. The ship was originally planned to visit both Cabo San Lucas and Ensenada during the trip.

Passengers will still get to enjoy Cabo San Lucas as planned. The ship is heading there now and should arrive for an overnight stay on December 18th.

However, the stop in Ensenada had to be canceled. There simply wasn’t enough time to include both ports after the delayed start.

The Firenze will return to Long Beach on December 21st as originally scheduled. This means the cruise will end on time despite the rocky beginning.

What Compensation Are Passengers Getting?

Carnival is trying to make things right with affected guests. Passengers reported that the cruise line is offering $100 in onboard credit per cabin.

This credit can be used for drinks, specialty dining, spa treatments, and other extras during the cruise. It helps offset some of the disappointment from missing Ensenada.

The 4,232-guest ship is known for having plenty of activities onboard. Even with one less port, there’s still lots to do during sea days.

The Firenze calls Long Beach home year-round. It offers regular four- to six-night cruises to Mexico and Baja California.

Popular destinations include Cabo San Lucas, Ensenada, and Catalina Island. These shorter cruises are perfect for West Coast travelers who want a quick getaway.

The 135,500-ton ship won’t stay on the West Coast forever. In early 2027, Carnival plans to move the Firenze to the East Coast for cruises from Miami and New York City.
