Norwegian Cruise Line just welcomed one of its newest ships to Texas waters. The Norwegian Viva arrived at the Port of Galveston on December 13, 2025, ready to start its first season sailing from the Lone Star State.
This brand-new ship, built in 2023, will call Galveston home through April 2026. The Viva will offer weekly seven-night Caribbean cruises during its Texas debut season.
What to Expect on Norwegian Viva’s Caribbean Itineraries
The ship’s regular seven-night trips will take you to some of the Caribbean’s best spots. You’ll visit Cozumel and Costa Maya in Mexico, plus Roatan in Honduras. The cruise also stops at Harvest Caye, which is Norwegian’s private resort-style island in Southern Belize.
Looking for a longer getaway? Norwegian Viva will offer one special 14-night cruise in January 2026. This extended voyage departs Galveston on January 10, 2026.
The longer cruise visits eight destinations across the Caribbean. You’ll explore St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands, St. John’s in Antigua, and Philipsburg in St. Maarten. The itinerary also includes San Juan in Puerto Rico, Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic, and George Town in Grand Cayman. Finally, you’ll visit Cozumel, Mexico, and Great Stirrup Cay in the Bahamas.
Norwegian’s CEO Shares Excitement About Texas Expansion
“We’re excited to officially welcome the Norwegian Viva to Galveston this season,” said Harry Sommer, president and chief executive officer of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings.
Sommer explained why this move matters for Texas travelers. “Expanding our offerings from popular, easily accessible ports allows us to bring unforgettable experiences closer to home for more travelers. The Norwegian Viva was thoughtfully designed for guests to live life to the fullest, and we’re proud to introduce this world-class cruising option to Texas.”
New Terminal Welcomes Norwegian’s Newest Ship
The Norwegian Viva docked at Galveston’s brand-new Cruise Terminal 16 for its first visit. This massive 165,000-square-foot terminal just opened in November 2025. The new facility gives cruise passengers more space and better amenities.
Port officials are thrilled about the ship’s arrival. “Opening this terminal has allowed Norwegian Cruise Line to expand its presence in Galveston. The beautiful Norwegian Viva allows our cruisers the opportunity to experience a world-class cruise ship,” said Rodger Rees, Galveston Wharves port director and CEO.
Rees highlighted why cruise lines choose Galveston. “The U.S. cruise market continues to select the Port of Galveston as a preferred debarkation point because of ships like the Norwegian Viva.”
Planning Ahead: Norwegian Viva Returns Next Year
Good news for Texas cruisers who want to sail on this ship. Norwegian plans to bring the Viva back to Galveston for a second winter season in 2026-27. This gives you plenty of time to plan your Caribbean getaway.
The Norwegian Viva joins Norwegian Cruise Line‘s growing presence in Texas. With its modern amenities and exciting itineraries, this Prima-class ship offers Texas travelers easy access to Caribbean adventures without flying to distant ports.
