Viking Brings Chinese-Language Cruises to Northern Europe

This is big news in the cruise world. Viking will launch two new ocean itineraries in Northern Europe in April 2027. These will be the first Northern European cruises ever designed specifically for Chinese-speaking guests.

Viking isn’t new to this market. More than 100,000 Chinese guests have already sailed with the cruise line.

Building on Mediterranean Success

The Northern Europe expansion follows Viking’s earlier move into Chinese-language Mediterranean sailings. The ship handling those voyages is the Viking Yidun, which began her Mediterranean season in August 2025.

The Viking Yidun is fully set up for Chinese-speaking guests. It features Chinese-language signage, entertainment, and hotel services. Guests also enjoy Chinese electrical outlets, kettles, and a menu blending Chinese and Western food.

The ship covers a wide range of destinations. Itineraries run from 8 to 22 days. They span nine countries, including Italy, Spain, Greece, Turkey, and France.

A Major Transcontinental Voyage

The Viking Yidun kicked things off with a 60-day voyage from Shanghai to Barcelona. That journey started in early June 2025 and arrived in Barcelona in early August. It was quite the grand entrance for the ship’s maiden Mediterranean season.

Looking ahead, the Viking Yidun will keep sailing Chinese-language Mediterranean voyages through winter 2027. One highlight is a 60-day journey from Athens to Stockholm. That single trip covers 18 countries and 40 cities.

The New Northern Europe Itineraries

The two new Northern Europe routes offer rich cultural experiences. The first is a 15-day voyage from Oslo to Stockholm. It includes three Nordic capitals, Norwegian fjords, Berlin, and stops along historic Hanseatic trade routes.

The second route is a 14-day voyage from Lisbon to Oslo. This one follows Europe’s Atlantic coastline. Both itineraries are designed to give guests a deep, immersive look at European culture and history.

Viking China will also offer land-tour extensions in Oslo, Stockholm, and Reykjavik. These add-ons give travelers even more time to explore each destination.
