Virgin Voyages Adds Record Shop and Karaoke Room

I remember when Virgin Records started in 1972. Now, Virgin Voyages is carrying on Sir Richard’s long-time affinity with the music world. The new Virgin Voyages’ Scarlet Lady will be outfitted with Voyage Vinyl, an updated version of an old-fashioned record shop. Seriously.

Virgin Voyages just announced that they’re keeping the music going strong by developing their own sonic identity. When Scarlet Lady launches in 2020, the innovative ship will have a trio of cruise industry music “firsts.”

Scarlet Lady adds a record shop, Voyage Vinyl, where Sailors (the name for Scarlet Lady passengers) can experience music from all eras and genres. It will feature personal listening stations and offer limited-edition vinyl collections with playlists by Virgin Voyage’s past & present DJs. Live DJ sets by Scarlet Lady’s resident DJs will have their own performance areas.

Virgin Voyages is going full speed ahead with celebrity DJs. In addition to the previously announced DJ residency with Mark Ronson,  the chart-topping producer and remixer MK (Marc Kinchen) joins the team.

The Grammy-nominated electronic music duo Sofi Tukker will also join the roster of DJ residents. The celebrity DJs will perform on ship, in-port destinations and at The Beach Club at Bimini. Mark Ronson, has committed to four performances at The Beach Club at Bimini in 2020.

Virgin Voyages Sonic Identity Explained

If you’re wondering what Virgin Voyages sonic identity will be, think electronic music. But not to alienate any Sailors, the identity will also incorporate other music genres. The cruise line expands their definition of electronic music to include all electronically programmed sounds. You’ll hear tracks from more classic eras that range from rare disco tracks through to 80’s sounds and other periods of electronic sound.

Voyage Vinyl

This is the go-to place aboard Scarlet Lady to experience music from all eras and genres. Voyage Vinyl will have personal listening stations (record booths of old) so guests can listen to favorite albums both current and classic.

Limited-edition curated albums and special editions will be available for purchase. Souvenirs to purchse from Voyage Vinyl will also include music magazines, headphones and record players. The record shop will also double as a performance spot for live sets mixed by Scarlet Lady’s resident DJs.

The Groupie

The Groupie is a karaoke, gaming and movie lounge that is available for guests to book. Designed to resemble a modern version of a Japanese karaoke room, Sailors can have fun singing along to their favorite tunes with friends.

Celebrating Music Launch

If you happen to be in the Miami area, Virgin Voyages will take over a part of Gramps, 176 NW 24th St, Miami, in Wynwood for five days from 4-11 pm Tuesday, March 26 – Saturday, March 30. Visitors will have the opportunity to create their own art as a takeaway item at a vinyl spin art station.

Virgin Voyages will also have an epic Instagram moment where visitors can hop on a giant turntable and insta their hearts away in a photo booth. Everyone will receive a keychain to a special lockbox at Gramps, where they can try their luck to win special Virgin Voyages swag, vinyl record players, vintage records and more.

What’s next for Virgin Voyages Scarlet Lady? Stay tuned. There’s bound to be more cruise industry shake-ups before the ship begins cruising from Miami in 2020. More info about Virgin Voyages can be found here.
