Royal Caribbean Changes Disembarkation Port Mid-Cruise

Royal Caribbean has announced a change to the ending port for the May 15, 2026, sailing on the Ovation of the Seas. The seven-night Alaska cruise will now end in Whittier instead of Seward.

The reason? Construction at the port of Seward made the switch necessary. As Royal Caribbean explained, “Due to port construction in Seward, debarkation for your sailing will now take place in Whittier.”

The cruise line also acknowledged the inconvenience: “We’re terribly sorry for the last-minute change caused by port construction. Our onboard team will share next steps during your cruise.”

What This Means for Your Travel Plans

Whittier is about one hour and 20 minutes from Anchorage. Since Anchorage is the main travel hub in the region, most guests should still be able to get home without major disruptions.

Royal Caribbean is also adjusting all shore excursions and post-cruise transfers to match the new debarkation port.

If You Booked Transportation Through Royal Caribbean

Good news — you don’t need to do anything. If you booked coach or train transportation through Royal Caribbean, the cruise line will handle all the changes for you.

If You Made Your Own Arrangements

If you set up private transportation or independent excursions, you’ll need to contact those providers directly. Let them know about the port change so they can update your pickup location.

Cruise Tour Guests

Guests booked on a Royal Caribbean cruise tour will now begin their land journey from Whittier instead of Seward.

About This Alaska Itinerary

The May 15 sailing departs from Vancouver and visits Ketchikan, Sitka, and Skagway. The cruise also includes scenic cruising through the Inside Passage and past the stunning Hubbard Glacier.

The Ovation of the Seas is one of four Royal Caribbean ships heading to Alaska in 2026. It will run weekly Alaska cruises through mid-September. Joining it in the region are the Voyager of the Seas, Serenade of the Seas, and Anthem of the Seas.
