Norwegian Aura Makes History With Stunning Floatout Ceremony at the Shipyard

Norwegian Aura Emerges From the Shipyard in a Historic Floatout Ceremony

Norwegian Cruise Line just hit a big milestone with its newest ship. The Norwegian Aura has officially touched water for the first time!

Norwegian Aura Floats Out in Italy

On April 16, a float-out ceremony took place at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy. This event marked the completion of the ship’s outer hull. Work will now shift to finishing the interior of the ship.

The Norwegian Aura is set to become the largest ship NCL has ever built. She is expected to make her debut in May 2027.

What NCL’s President Had to Say

NCL President Marc Kazlauskas shared his excitement about the milestone:

“Norwegian Aura’s float out is a proud and meaningful moment for our entire team. She builds on the legacy of our award-winning Prima Class while taking our commitment to thoughtfully designed guest‑first experiences even further.”

He also highlighted what makes the ship special for families and groups:

“Created in close partnership with Fincantieri, the ship is purposefully constructed to deliver an elevated, multi‑generational vacation experience, with expansive outdoor spaces like Ocean Heights, that bring families and friends together for fun-filled days.”

Norwegian Aura by the Numbers

This ship is truly massive. Here’s a quick look at what we know so far:

  • Length: Nearly 1,130 feet
  • Weight: About 170,000 tons
  • Staterooms: Over 1,970
  • Guest capacity: Around 3,880 (double occupancy)

When and Where Will She Sail?

The Norwegian Aura’s maiden voyage is scheduled for May 21, 2027. She will depart from Trieste, Italy on a seven-day Mediterranean cruise. The route will include stops in Italy and Malta.

Heading to the U.S.

After her Mediterranean debut, the Aura will cross the Atlantic to the United States on a 14-day transatlantic voyage. That’s quite a grand entrance!

Caribbean Sailings from Miami

Starting June 10, 2027, the Norwegian Aura will be based in Miami. She will offer seven-day cruises to both the Eastern and Western Caribbean throughout her inaugural season. This is great news for U.S. cruisers looking for a brand-new ship experience close to home.
