Holland America Line Teams Up With Jefferson’s Bourbon
Holland America Line has announced a first-of-its-kind partnership with Jefferson’s Bourbon. The cruise line will age whiskey at sea across its entire fleet. The announcement came on International Whiskey Day, March 27.
This is a big deal for Jefferson’s Bourbon. The distillery has aged whiskey on cargo and fishing vessels before — 35 voyages in total. But this marks their very first partnership with a cruise line.

How the Sea Aging Process Works
Starting this month, Jefferson’s began loading one bourbon barrel onto each Holland America ship. All 11 ships in the fleet will carry their own exclusive barrel by the end of April 2026.
Each barrel will spend at least six months at sea. The ocean’s rolling motion, changing climates, and natural elements will all shape the bourbon’s flavor. Think of it as the sea itself becoming part of the recipe.
Jefferson’s Bourbon founder Trey Zoeller explained the excitement behind the project:
“We are thrilled to partner with Holland America Line to embark on a truly unique adventure. By placing Jefferson’s Ocean barrels on their cruise ships, we’re diving into a quest to see how different routes and voyages (meaning different climates and agitation) influence the taste, smell, and mouthfeel of our whiskey.”
What Guests Can Expect
Each barrel is expected to produce around 150 to 300 bottles. Those bottles will be delivered back to the ships in 2027 for guests to taste. That means passengers could one day sip a bourbon shaped by the very voyage they’re on.
Drew Foulk, Holland America’s director of food and beverage revenue and innovation, summed it up perfectly:
“This partnership with Jefferson’s Bourbon is another way we’re setting ourselves apart through experiences that are too good to hurry through. Aging bourbon aboard our ships and offering it exclusively back to guests later reflects our commitment to beverage programs that are shaped by the journey itself.”
Part of a Bigger Celebration
This bourbon partnership is the newest addition to Holland America’s Single Barrel Program. It’s also tied to the cruise line’s celebration of America’s 250th anniversary.
Holland America has several brand collaborations planned around the milestone. They’re also offering a special Stars and Stripes cruise departing from Boston, Massachusetts, on July 4, 2026.
You’re Not the Only One Aging Bourbon at Sea
Interestingly, Holland America isn’t alone in this idea. Azamara recently announced a similar concept called the Bourbon Quest. Their program is a partnership with Milam & Greene Whiskey. It seems aging bourbon at sea is becoming a trend worth watching.
