Disney Wonder Makes Panama Canal History

Disney Wonder First Cruise Ship to Transit New Panama CanalMaking headline firsts, Disney Wonder just transited the Panama Canal to become the first passenger ship to go through the Panama Canal’s new set of locks. Pretty neat distinction.

The 2,712 passenger Disney Wonder set out on the historic Panama Canal crossing from Port Canaveral to San Diego on a 14-night cruise.

Once on the west coast and for a short time, Disney Wonder will cruise a series of itineraries from San Diego to Baja, Mexico. When the Alaska cruise season begins in very late spring, Disney Wonder will cruise north to Vancouver, Canada where the ship will homeport for the summer and complete a season of Alaska cruises.

Launched in 1999, Disney Wonder underwent a six-week refurbishment in late 2o16 over in Cadiz, Spain.

Enhancements to the ship include:

  • Marvel Super Hero Academy
  • Tiana’s Place restaurant – inspired by Princess Tiana in “The Princess and the Frog” – New Orleans-inspired eatery
  • Adults-only English Pub
  • 15,000 sq. ft. of dedicated play-space for kids
  • Enhanced water park

There’s just too much to list so take a look for yourself over at Disney Cruises.
