Carnival Cruise Line just reached a huge milestone at their newest destination. Celebration Key welcomed its one-millionth guest only five months after opening. This private island destination in The Bahamas has become incredibly popular with cruisers.
A Family Celebration to Remember
The lucky one-millionth guest was Andrew Sexton from Knoxville, Tennessee. He was visiting with his wife Savannah, their three daughters, and extended family. The trip was a special holiday gift from the grandparents, and it marked Andrew’s first-ever cruise.
When the Sexton family stepped off Carnival Vista, they got quite a surprise. A traditional Junkanoo band greeted them with music and celebration. Carnival also treated the family to special perks including a private cabana, food and drinks, and unlimited access to the waterslides.
Major Impact on Local Community
Celebration Key has created real benefits for Bahamian residents. The destination has generated more than 1,000 permanent jobs for locals. Carnival has also partnered with 58 companies owned by Bahamians.
“Both local residents who have benefited from the job creation and our guests have embraced Celebration Key from the very first day, and this milestone underscores an exciting chapter for us in The Bahamas,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line.
During construction, Carnival hired 29 Bahamian construction companies. An impressive 96% of land-based employees are Bahamian citizens. This approach created significant job opportunities during the building phase.
Minister Glover-Rolle praised the project’s impact. “We look forward to the same results that Celebration Key has brought, which is more employment for more locals and the ability for family islanders to actually relocate and move back home so that they could have gainful employment in their places of domicile,” she said.
Impressive Numbers in Five Months
Since opening on July 19, Celebration Key has served impressive numbers. Guests have enjoyed more than 500,000 complimentary Island Eats meals. The destination has also served 600,000 beverages to visitors.
The waterslides have been a huge hit. More than 49,000 guests have enjoyed the Suncastle water slides. For those seeking adventure, over 3,600 guests have tried parasailing to see the island from above.
Premium accommodations are also popular. Guests have booked over 16,000 premium spots like private cabanas and super villas. Carnival offers 40 different shore excursions from the destination.
Big Plans for the Future
Currently, 20 Carnival ships visit Celebration Key from ten different U.S. ports. The destination connects easily to major cruise hubs across America.
Carnival expects even bigger numbers ahead. The cruise line projects two million guests will visit next year. By 2028, they expect four million annual guests.
A pier expansion planned for summer 2026 will help handle these larger crowds. This expansion will allow more ships to dock at the same time.
What Makes Celebration Key Special
Carnival Vista made the first official visit to Celebration Key back in July. The same ship brought the one-millionth guest, creating a nice full-circle moment.
The destination offers something for every type of cruiser. Families love the water slides and beach areas. Adults enjoy the premium cabanas and excursions. The complimentary dining options mean guests can try local flavors without extra costs.
“We’re proud to lay the foundation for long-term growth and a positive impact in the region, while creating something truly special for our guests,” Duffy added.
The success of Celebration Key shows how cruise destinations can benefit both visitors and local communities. For American cruisers, it provides a new tropical escape that’s easily accessible from multiple U.S. ports.
