Viking Star Makes Manhattan Debut Amid Fanfare and Fireboat Reception
After a transatlantic crossing and a stop in Boston, Viking Star arrived into New York Harbor.
On Thursday, Viking Star, Viking Ocean Cruises first cruise ship, was welcomed into New York Harbor and the Manhattan Cruise Terminal.
Greeting the 930-passenger ship on its first-ever visit to New York City was a water-spraying display by a fleet of red and white New York Fireboats.
On October 11, Viking officially commemorated its first United States port of call in Boston, with a traditional maritime plaque ceremony attended by local officials and dignitaries. This is the first time Viking has sailed into North American ports, which are part of the company’s new itineraries exploring the Americas and the Caribbean.

From the Manhattan Cruise Terminal, Viking Star cruises to San Juan, Puerto Rico, which will serve as the ship’s homeport for the winter season.

For almost four months, Viking Star will sail an 11-day West Indies Exploreritinerary. Port calls will include the BVIs, Antigua, St. Lucia, Barbados, Guadeloupe, St. Kitts, St. Martin and the USVIs. And a new twist to Caribbean cruising; there will be no sea days.
While onboard, there’ll be opportunities for educational enrichment both onboard and ashore. Presentations by local experts, historians and lecturers, as well as a variety of shore excursions, with optional visits to museums, gardens and historic sites will be offered.
On February 25, 2017, Viking Star will begin a return transatlantic voyage back to Europe sailing from San Juan to Barcelona.
