Royal Caribbean just dropped big news for Texas cruisers. Icon of the Seas, the world’s largest cruise ship, will sail from Galveston starting August 2027. This marks a major expansion for the cruise line across Texas, California, and the Northeast.

The announcement includes nine Royal Caribbean ships sailing from these regions. Bookings opened for Crown & Anchor Society loyalty members on November 12, with general sales starting November 13.

Icon of the Seas Makes Texas Debut

Icon of the Seas will start its 2027 season in Miami before heading to Galveston in August. This record-breaking ship revolutionized family cruising when it launched, and now Texas families can experience it from their home port.

The ship will offer 6- to 8-night Eastern and Western Caribbean cruises. You’ll visit Perfect Day at CocoCay in the Bahamas, Roatan in Honduras, and Cozumel, Mexico. Cozumel stops include access to Royal Beach Club Cozumel after it opens in late 2026.

Icon features Category 6, the largest waterpark at sea with six record-breaking slides. The ship has seven pools, more than 40 dining and drinking venues, and a special neighborhood designed just for young families called Surfside.

Families get experiences for every age group. Thrill-seekers can ride Storm Surge family raft slides, Pressure Drop (the industry’s first open free-fall slide), and Frightening Bolt (the tallest drop slide at sea).

Two More Ships Join Galveston’s Fleet

Liberty of the Seas

Liberty of the Seas starts sailing from Galveston in April 2027 with 4- to 8-night Caribbean adventures. The ship just went through a major upgrade in 2026 called an amplification.

New features include a completely redesigned pool deck with The Lime & Coconut tropical cocktail bar. You’ll find new casitas with ocean views and an all-new Royal Escape Room for family bonding.

Ports of call include Roatan for snorkeling the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef and Costa Maya for exploring Mayan Ruins.

Symphony of the Seas

Symphony of the Seas will homeport in Texas for the first time starting April 2027. The ship offers 4- to 8-night Western Caribbean cruises to Nassau, Perfect Day at CocoCay, Cozumel, and Costa Maya.

Nassau stops give you access to Royal Beach Club Paradise Island, opening December 2025. This new beach club destination offers pristine beaches and tropical experiences.

On board, ride The Ultimate Abyss, a 10-story-tall dry slide. Choose from more than 30 dining and drinking options including Jamie’s Italian, El Loco Fresh, and Boleros.

What This Expansion Means for Cruisers

Royal Caribbean’s 2027-28 lineup brings major ships closer to more Americans. Texas gets three ships including the world’s largest cruise ship.

Lynn Torrent, president of Royal Caribbean North America, emphasized the importance of this expansion. “The vacation brand is ramping up on memory-making with adventure-filled lineups, including the world’s best family vacation, Icon of the Seas, delivering unforgettable vacations from Galveston,” she said.
