Viking just added another stunning ship to its fleet! The Viking Mira was officially named in a ceremony held in the beautiful city of Venice, Italy.

Viking Mira Gets Named in Style

The naming ceremony took place in Venice, one of the world’s most iconic cities. Rebecca “Becky” Webb Wilson served as the ship’s godmother. She is an attorney, author, photographer, and philanthropist with an impressive background in public service.

Viking’s Executive Chairman Torstein Hagen was clearly thrilled about the occasion. “We are proud to welcome the new Viking Mira to our award-winning fleet of elegant sister ships,” he said. He also added, “We are also very honored to have Rebecca as our newest Viking godmother. Her lifelong commitment to public service, exploration and cultural understanding is an inspiration to all of us.”

A Ceremony Full of Tradition

The naming ceremony followed a time-honored maritime tradition. Rebecca used a Viking broad axe to cut a ribbon. This released a bottle of Norwegian aquavit, which then broke against the ship’s hull.

Guests at the event were treated to live music. Sissel Kyrkjebo, one of the world’s top crossover sopranos, performed at the event. She also happens to be the godmother of Viking’s ship, the Viking Jupiter.

What Makes the Viking Mira Special?

The Viking Mira is a small ship by cruise industry standards. It weighs 54,300 gross tons and has 499 staterooms. The ship can carry up to 998 guests at full capacity.

The ship reflects Viking’s signature style throughout. Every stateroom has its own private veranda. The design is classic Scandinavian, with bright, open public spaces and al fresco dining options.

Who Is the Viking Mira’s Godmother?

Rebecca Webb Wilson has lived quite the remarkable life. She started her career as a flight attendant with Pan American World Airways. She later earned degrees from Vanderbilt University and the University of Memphis School of Law.

Her career took a big turn toward public service. She went on to become an Assistant U.S. Attorney. She has also held leadership roles in education, healthcare, and community organizations.

Her Work With Young People

One of Rebecca’s most impressive achievements is founding Bridge Builders. This youth leadership program helps students from different backgrounds connect with each other. So far, more than 20,000 young people have taken part in the program.
