Carnival Cruise Line just shook up its future deployment plans. The cruise line announced it’s swapping ships between two popular homeports in Texas and Florida.
Starting in late 2027, Carnival Sunshine will call Galveston, Texas home. Meanwhile, Carnival Spirit will move to Tampa, Florida. This switch affects cruises beginning in November 2027.
Why the Change?
The move makes sense when you look at the numbers. Carnival Sunshine carries about 3,000 guests, giving Galveston more passenger capacity. Texas cruisers have been asking for more options, and this change delivers.
“We’re excited to introduce Carnival Sunshine to Galveston for the first time and bring Carnival Spirit to Tampa,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. “This move allows us to serve more guests in Galveston where we continue to see strong demand and introduce new, longer Caribbean itineraries for guests sailing from Tampa.”
What Galveston Gets
Carnival keeps four ships in Galveston with this change. The port will offer cruises ranging from four to 10 days. All sailings head to Caribbean destinations.
Short cruises from Galveston will visit Mexico. Expect stops in Cozumel and Progreso on these quick getaways.
Longer sailings open up more exciting ports. These extended cruises reach destinations like Belize, Celebration Key, and Half Moon Cay. You might also visit Grand Turk, Amber Cove in the Dominican Republic, or even Panama and Costa Rica.
Special Galveston Sailings
Carnival Sunshine brings eight brand-new cruise options to Galveston. One standout is a 10-day voyage hitting four amazing ports. This special cruise visits Cozumel, Isla Tropicale, Montego Bay, and Grand Cayman.
The variety means something for every vacation style. Quick Mexico runs work great for first-time cruisers. Longer Caribbean adventures suit travelers wanting to explore multiple islands.
Tampa’s New Options
Carnival Spirit’s move to Tampa creates fresh opportunities for Florida cruisers. The ship will offer six-, seven-, and eight-day Caribbean cruises. Popular stops include Belize, Isla Tropicale, and Grand Cayman.
Jamaica fans can visit Ocho Rios on select sailings. Mexico lovers still get their fix with stops in Cozumel and Progreso.
Panama Canal Adventures
Tampa gets something really special with Carnival Spirit. The ship will run six eight-day Panama Canal cruises. These unique voyages visit Limon, Grand Cayman, and Colon.
One extra-special sailing launches on January 30, 2028. This 13-day Carnival Journeys cruise hits six different ports. Guests can explore Grand Cayman, Limon, Colon, Aruba, Curacao, and Ocho Rios all in one trip.
