The Koningsdam Is Back and Better Than Ever After a Major Drydock Makeover
Fresh off a two-week drydock in the Bahamas, Holland America Line’s Koningsdam is back and better than ever. The ship returned to service on March 29, 2026, with a host of exciting upgrades for passengers.
What’s New on the Koningsdam
Holland America made some big changes during the ship’s time in dry dock. The updates touch everything from staterooms to entertainment venues to the casino floor. Guests who sailed on March 29 were the first to enjoy all the improvements.

More Space for Families and Groups
One of the biggest additions is five brand-new ocean view staterooms. These rooms were built with families and groups of friends in mind. Each one fits up to four guests comfortably.
The new staterooms come with two beds that convert into a queen-size bed, plus a double sofa bed. That gives groups plenty of sleeping options without feeling cramped. Holland America also upgraded 22 Vista Suites with new sofa beds, giving even more families the chance to stay together on board.
A Better Live Music Experience
If you love live music, the Koningsdam just got a whole lot better. Holland America refreshed the area connecting Billboard Onboard and Rolling Stone Lounge. The updates create what the cruise line calls “a more open, connected environment where guests can gather and enjoy live music throughout the evening.”
Both venues now have added seating, so more people can enjoy shows together. New lounge seating sits between the two venues, letting guests catch performances from either side. The whole area feels more connected and fun.
Casino and Shopping Upgrades
The ship’s casino got bigger during the drydock. The expanded floor allows for more gaming options. It also improves the flow between the casino, entertainment areas, and nearby shops.
The Effy jewelry boutique got a full makeover too. New flooring, wall finishes, lighting, and display fixtures give the store a fresh, modern feel. Holland America made similar updates to the Effy shops on the Westerdam and Zuiderdam.
Dining and Fitness Refreshes
Several specialty dining venues also got some attention. Pinnacle Grill, Sel de Mer, and Club Orange all received updates. Some fixed tables were swapped out for movable ones, making it easier to seat different group sizes.
The fitness center also received brand-new equipment. Plus, carpets were replaced in staterooms and public areas throughout the ship. These smaller touches add up to a noticeably fresher feel across the whole vessel.
What’s Next for the Koningsdam
After its Caribbean sailing, the Koningsdam is heading to the Panama Canal before starting its summer season in Alaska. If you’ve been thinking about an Alaska cruise, this newly refreshed ship is worth a look. It’s a great time to experience everything Holland America has updated.
