Royal Caribbean just announced some exciting news. The brand-new Legend of the Seas will start sailing earlier than expected.

The cruise line sent a message to booked guests with the update. The ship’s first cruise now leaves on July 4, 2026, from Civitavecchia, Italy.

Moving Up the Maiden Voyage

The third Icon-class ship was supposed to debut on July 11, 2026. That date marked a seven-night Western Mediterranean cruise.

Now that sailing is one week sooner. The July 11 cruise will still happen as planned.

“Building such a large and incredible ship is no easy feat, but lucky for us, there are times when we get to embark on our new ship ahead of schedule,” Royal Caribbean said.

The cruise line expressed enthusiasm about the early debut. “We simply cannot wait to show off The Next Icon of Vacations, the Legend of the Seas, with one extra sailing, a seven-night Western Mediterranean cruise,” the company added.

What This Means for Guests

Royal Caribbean is giving current guests first dibs on the new sailing. People who booked the July 11 cruise can switch to the July 4 departure.

The new July 4 sailing becomes the ship’s official maiden voyage. It kicks off Legend’s inaugural season celebrations.

“Not to worry, our July 11 sailing that is part of our showcase will still take place, but we wanted to give you an exclusive opportunity to join us for this new sailing,” Royal Caribbean explained.

Pricing and Room Changes

Guests who switch dates will keep their same room type. Royal Caribbean will match rooms on a first-come, first-served basis.

The cruise line will honor the original price or give the current lower rate. Whichever price is cheaper is what guests will pay.

Taxes, fees, and gratuities will reflect current rates. These charges may differ from the original booking.

Help With Travel Changes

Royal Caribbean knows changing dates can be tricky. The cruise line is offering support for travel adjustments.

Guests who booked flights through Air2Sea will get direct help. The team will assist with rescheduling air travel.

For travelers who booked their own flights, help is available too. Royal Caribbean will cover change fees up to $200 per person for domestic flights. International flight changes get covered up to $400 per person.

The same applies to hotel bookings made independently. This applies even if guests purchased non-refundable travel.

Ship Construction on Track

The Legend of the Seas is finishing construction right now. The ship is being built at Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland.

The early debut shows construction is ahead of schedule. This is impressive for such a massive vessel.

The Icon-class ships are Royal Caribbean’s newest and largest. Legend of the Seas will be the third ship in this class.
