Norwegian Cruise Line Returns to Philadelphia with New Terminal

PhilaPort has broken ground on an exciting new cruise terminal project. The facility will welcome cruise ships back to the Port of Philadelphia for the first time in over a decade.

New Terminal Opens in 2026

The PhilaPort Cruise Terminal sits on 16 acres next to Philadelphia International Airport. Construction crews are working to have the facility ready by April 2026. The location offers cruise passengers easy access to both the airport and downtown Philadelphia.

Norwegian Cruise Line will be the first cruise line to use the new terminal. The Norwegian Jewel will arrive in spring 2026 to kick off cruise operations. This marks Norwegian’s return to Philadelphia after a 15-year absence.

Bermuda Cruises from Philadelphia

The Norwegian Jewel will offer regular cruises to Bermuda from Philadelphia. These sailings give East Coast travelers a convenient departure port for reaching the popular island destination. Passengers won’t need to travel to New York or Baltimore to catch their cruise.

Norwegian has committed to a long-term partnership with PhilaPort. The cruise line signed an agreement that runs through March 2033. This deal guarantees 41 sailings per year from the Philadelphia homeport.

Economic Benefits for the Region

Jeff Theobald serves as PhilaPort’s executive director and CEO. He praised the partnership in a statement to local media. “This is a unique opportunity, and we are fortunate to have two outstanding partners in Energy Transfer and Norwegian Cruise Line, both of whom see tremendous potential in Philadelphia,” Theobald said.

The project required extensive planning and coordination. “It took a lot of hard work to bring this agreement together, and Energy Transfer and Norwegian Cruise Line were committed every step of the way,” Theobald explained. “We have a lot of hard work ahead of us, but we are ready and excited to welcome cruise passengers this spring.”

The new terminal will create significant economic impact for Philadelphia. Officials expect 2,185 direct and indirect jobs from cruise operations. The project should generate $300 million in economic activity for the region.

Strategic Growth for Norwegian

Daniel Farkas represents Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings as executive vice president. He oversees legal affairs and business development for the company. Farkas highlighted the importance of adding Philadelphia as a homeport.

“Philadelphia’s debut as our newest homeport marks a strategic milestone for Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings and our three award-winning brands: Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises, and Regent Seven Seas Cruises,” Farkas stated.

The executive emphasized Philadelphia’s appeal to cruise travelers. “Together with PhilaPort, we’re expanding access to exceptional cruise experiences, connecting guests to world-class destinations with the convenience of sailing from a city rich in American history,” he said.

Looking Ahead to 2026

Norwegian views this partnership as part of its growth strategy. “As we prepare to launch in 2026, this terminal represents the next wave in our commitment to innovation, regional growth, and delivering an unmatched guest experience from ship to shore,” Farkas added.

The new Philadelphia terminal gives Norwegian another strategic homeport on the East Coast. Cruise passengers in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and nearby states will have easier access to Norwegian’s ships. The location also positions the cruise line well for Bermuda and Caribbean itineraries.

Construction continues on schedule for the April 2026 opening. Philadelphia cruise fans can start planning their return to cruising from their home city.
