Norwegian Cruise Line Doubles Down on Puerto Rico for 2027-28 Season

Norwegian Cruise Line is making big moves in Puerto Rico. The cruise company plans to base two of its newest ships in San Juan during the 2027-28 winter season.

This marks the first time Norwegian will have two Prima-class ships sailing from Puerto Rico at the same time. The Norwegian Prima and Norwegian Viva will both call San Juan home port.

Seven-Night Caribbean Adventures Await

Both ships will offer week-long Caribbean cruises from November 13, 2027, through April 22, 2028. These itineraries focus on giving guests more time to explore each destination.

Norwegian designed these trips for deeper exploration. The cruise line says ports will average 9.5 hours of stay time. This gives travelers more opportunity to really experience each island.

Norwegian Prima’s Eastern Caribbean Route

The Norwegian Prima will depart San Juan every Saturday. Her seven-night cruises will visit some of the most popular Eastern Caribbean spots.

Guests can explore Road Town in Tortola, British Virgin Islands. The ship also stops in Philipsburg, St. Maarten and St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Other ports include Bridgetown, Barbados; Castries, St. Lucia; and Basseterre, St. Kitts and Nevis.

Norwegian Viva Focuses on Southern Caribbean

Sunday departures from San Juan will feature the Norwegian Viva. This ship targets Southern Caribbean destinations that many cruise travelers love.

The Viva’s itinerary includes stops in Aruba and Curaçao. Norwegian promises additional Southern Caribbean ports for this route.

Massive 2027-28 Season Lineup

Norwegian’s winter season will be huge. The company plans over 370 departures during this period. Trip lengths range from two days to 22 days.

These cruises will visit 144 destinations across 47 countries. That gives travelers tons of options for their next vacation.

Strong Florida Presence Continues

While Puerto Rico gets expanded service, Florida remains a key hub. Seven Norwegian ships will sail from the Sunshine State.

Miami will host three vessels: the Norwegian Luna, Norwegian Joy, and Norwegian Jewel. Port Canaveral gets three ships too – the Norwegian Aqua, Norwegian Breakaway, and Norwegian Epic.

Jacksonville rounds out Florida’s offerings with the Norwegian Dawn. This gives Florida-based cruisers plenty of nearby departure options.

Gulf Coast and West Coast Options

The Gulf Coast won’t be left out either. The Norwegian Escape will sail from Galveston, Texas. New Orleans welcomes the Norwegian Getaway.

West Coast travelers can board the Norwegian Encore for Pacific itineraries. This ensures Norwegian covers all major U.S. cruise markets.

International Deployments

Norwegian isn’t just focusing on Caribbean and U.S. markets. The Norwegian Jade returns to Asian waters for the season.

Meanwhile, the Norwegian Spirit heads down under. This ship will operate cruises in Australia and New Zealand during their summer season.

The expanded Puerto Rico deployment shows Norwegian’s confidence in Caribbean cruising. With two Prima-class ships based there, San Juan becomes a major hub for the cruise line’s Caribbean operations.
