New Carnival Cruise Ship will be Largest in the World

According to the latest edition of the Global Cruise Ship Index by Cruise Industry News, Carnival Cruise Line’s upcoming ships are set to be among the largest in the world.

These vessels, scheduled to enter service between 2029 and 2033, will be built at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy and will belong to a new class of ships.

Weighing in at 230,000 tons, these LNG-powered ships will be similar in size to Royal Caribbean International’s Oasis-class ships.

The Oasis series, currently ranked second in terms of ship size, includes six ships ranging from 220,000 to 231,000 tons. First introduced in 2009, these vessels were built by STX Turku in Finland and Chantiers de l’Atlantique in France.

A seventh vessel of similar design is slated for delivery by the French shipbuilder in 2028 as part of a recent order.

The Cruise Industry News’ 2025 Global Cruise Ship Index notes that Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas is currently the world’s largest ship. The 250,800-ton vessel, part of the new Icon-class, entered service in January 2024 and will be followed by two sister ships through 2026.

With the Star of the Seas set to debut in 2025, these ships are being constructed by the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland.

Compared to other notable ships, the upcoming Carnival vessels will be larger than MSC Cruises’ World-class ships, which weigh 205,700 tons, and larger than Disney Cruise Line’s new 208,000-ton vessel, Disney Adventure, scheduled for delivery in 2025.

Additionally, the new series from Norwegian Cruise Line, ordered earlier this year, will be smaller at a planned 200,000 tons.

In terms of capacity, Carnival’s new ships will be among the largest globally. Each vessel will feature 3,000 staterooms, accommodating approximately 8,000 guests.

To minimize their environmental impact, these ships will incorporate advanced energy efficiency, waste management, and emission reduction technologies, according to Carnival Corporation.
