Norwegian Cruise Line just dropped some exciting news about their private island paradise. Norwegian Cruise Line revealed fresh images of major upgrades coming to Great Stirrup Cay in the Bahamas. These changes are set to make this already popular destination even better for families.

The cruise line expects to welcome over one million guests to the island in 2026. That’s a huge number spread across 17 different ships visiting throughout the year.

What’s New at Great Stirrup Cay

The biggest addition is the Great Life Lagoon. This massive pool area sits right in the heart of the island and covers 1.4 acres. To put that in perspective, it’s larger than two Olympic-sized pools put together.

The lagoon features a beach-style entrance that feels natural and relaxing. Kids will love the splash area with special water features designed just for them. Private cabanas surround the pool area for guests who want extra comfort and shade.

“Great Stirrup Cay has always been a favorite for our guests, and these new enhancements make it even easier for guests to trade the winter weather for the warm tropics and enjoy an ‘Escape to the Great Life,'” said Harry Sommer, president and CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings.

Adults-Only Retreat Added

The new Vibe Shore Club offers something special for grown-ups. This adults-only area requires an all-day pass but provides a peaceful escape from family chaos. The club features private cabanas and its own bar right on the beach.

This gives parents a chance to unwind while kids play elsewhere on the island. It’s a smart addition that recognizes different vacation needs.

More Family Fun Coming

Norwegian didn’t stop with the lagoon. They also added Splash Harbor, a new Welcome Center, and a tram system to help guests get around easier. The tram will be especially helpful for families with young kids or anyone who doesn’t want to walk long distances in the heat.

Sommer explained the bigger picture: “With the fun versatility of Great Life Lagoon, and family-friendly spots like Splash Harbor, we’ve created an island where everyone can unwind, play and make lasting memories.”

Massive Water Park Debuts in 2026

The really big news is Great Tides Waterpark, launching in summer 2026. This attraction will feature 19 waterslides designed for all ages and skill levels. That’s more slides than many major theme parks offer.

The Tidal Tower will house high-speed racing slides, tube slides, and body slides. Some slides will even have conveyor belts to carry rafts to the top. This means no more exhausting climbs up stairs while carrying heavy rafts.

The water park will also include an almost 800-foot lazy river for floating and relaxing. A 9,000-square-foot splash zone will keep younger kids entertained with age-appropriate water features.

Industry-First Cliff Jumping

Perhaps the coolest addition is Cliffside Cove. This area will feature the cruise industry’s first cliffside jumps, along with racer slides and other thrills. It sounds like an adventure zone for guests who want an adrenaline rush.
