What Is the MSC Virtuosa?
The MSC Virtuosa is part of MSC Cruises’ Meraviglia Class fleet. It’s the fourth ship in this series, making it a sister ship to the MSC Grandiosa. Both ships are slightly larger than the first two in the class, the MSC Meraviglia and the MSC Bellissima.

The ship was built at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in St. Nazaire, France. It’s a massive vessel, weighing in at 181,541 tons and carrying up to 4,888 passengers.
A Unique Start Thanks to COVID-19
The MSC Virtuosa had an unusual beginning. Its original maiden voyage in the Western Mediterranean was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Instead, the ship launched from Southampton, England on May 20, 2021. It offered three- to seven-night cruises around England and Scotland during its first season at sea.
From the UK to the Middle East
After its UK summer season, the ship headed to the Middle East for the 2021-22 winter. It sailed seven-night itineraries visiting Abu Dhabi and Sir Bani Yas in the UAE, Dammam in Saudi Arabia, and Doha in Qatar.
A special naming ceremony was held in Dubai on November 27, 2021. Italian actress Sophia Loren served as the ship’s godmother for the event.
