MSC Cruises just launched its first-ever sailings from Texas. The MSC Seascape docked in Galveston on Thursday and sets off on its first voyage this Sunday, November 9.
The ship brings a fresh option for Texas cruisers who want European-style cruising without flying to Florida. And it’s happening at the port’s brand-new Cruise Terminal 16.
What Routes Will MSC Seascape Sail from Galveston
MSC Seascape will offer 7-night Western Caribbean cruises every Sunday. The itinerary visits three popular ports: Costa Maya and Cozumel in Mexico, plus Isla de Roatan in Honduras.
These year-round sailings give Texas residents a convenient home port option. No need to drive to Florida or book flights when you can cruise from your own backyard.
The ship’s arrival marks a big deal for Galveston. It’s the only cruise port in Texas and now ranks as the fourth busiest cruise port in the entire United States.
Texas-Sized Features on Board
MSC Seascape isn’t just any cruise ship. It’s one of MSC’s largest and most innovative vessels, and the cruise line added special touches for Texas guests.
The ship now features expanded Texas-inspired food and drink options. You’ll find Southern, Texan, and Gulf Coast flavors across the menus. The bars serve Texan and Southern-inspired cocktails alongside the ship’s existing five specialty restaurants.
Entertainment gets a country twist too. MSC added The Lone Star resident country band, dueling pianos, country line dance classes, and a Big Texas Sailaway party. These join the ship’s existing full-scale theater productions.
Lynn Torrent leads MSC Cruises North America as president. “MSC Seascape is arriving in Galveston with true Texas flair, adding to the blend of European style and American comfort our guests love,” Torrent said.
Family-Friendly Activities and Luxury Options
Families will find plenty to do on board. The ship offers over 7,500 square feet of dedicated kids’ space with areas separated by age from 0 to 17.
High-tech entertainment includes a Formula 1 racing simulator and Robotron. This amusement ride delivers rollercoaster thrills at sea with a personalized DJ experience.
Adults seeking luxury can book MSC Yacht Club. This ship-within-a-ship concept provides keycard-only access to exclusive areas. You get a private restaurant, lounge, outdoor bar and grill, sun deck, and pool.
MSC Yacht Club guests also enjoy priority boarding, 24/7 butler service, premier room service, VIP seating at shows, and a personal concierge.
NBC’s TODAY Brings Reading Nooks to the Ship
MSC Seascape partnered with NBC’s TODAY to create something unique. The ship now features “Read With Jenna” installations sponsored by MSC Cruises.
Guests can visit an on-deck reading nook with 20 of Jenna Bush Hager’s favorite book club picks. There’s also a Read With Jenna Jr. Children’s book nook for younger readers.
“I’m so thrilled to bring Read With Jenna to MSC Seascape!” Jenna Bush Hager said. “For me, reading is the ultimate vacation — so enjoy!”
The reading spaces offer a quiet spot to relax with a good book between port stops and activities.
What Else Makes MSC Seascape Special
The ship comes packed with features designed for Caribbean cruising. A 1,772-foot-long waterfront promenade puts you close to the ocean. The aft infinity pool provides stunning ocean views.
MSC Seascape has 2,270 cabins including 12 different suite and stateroom types. Many feature balconies, including the iconic aft suites found on all Seaside class ships.
You’ll find 11 dining venues and 19 bars and lounges throughout the ship. Many offer outdoor seating for dining and drinks. Five swimming pools give you plenty of places to cool off.
The Bridge of Sighs on deck 16 features a glass floor with unique sea views below your feet.
Economic Impact for Galveston
The port’s new Cruise Terminal 16 opened alongside MSC Seascape’s arrival. Officials from MSC Cruises, Galveston Wharves, and local government gathered for a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Rodger Rees serves as port director and CEO of Galveston Wharves. “Welcoming MSC Seascape to our new cruise terminal is a major milestone for our growing cruise port,” Rees said. “Adding MSC Cruises to our family of cruise lines offers our cruise guests an elegant, European-style family cruise experience.”
The Port of Galveston already supports the local economy significantly. It provides 4,547 jobs, $291 million in personal income, and $733 million in business revenue.
Terminal 16 should boost those numbers. The port expects to welcome 3.9 million passenger movements and 445 sailings across its four cruise terminals in 2026.
Why This Matters for Texas Cruisers
MSC Seascape’s arrival gives Texas residents easier access to cruise vacations. Millions of potential guests in the Central U.S. can now reach the port more easily.
The ship showcases MSC’s signature blend of European elegance and American comfort. It’s designed for all types of travelers from solo cruisers to multi-generational families.
Lynn Torrent emphasized the importance of this expansion. “Expanding our North American footprint to Galveston and cutting the ribbon on the port’s brand-new Cruise Terminal 16 are exciting steps for us on our path to making MSC Cruises a household name in the North American market,” she said.
First-time MSC cruisers from Texas can now experience the cruise line without the hassle of getting to Florida ports. And the year-round schedule means you can cruise any time that works for your vacation plans.
