Legend of the Seas Returns to Royal Caribbean Fleet in Time for Summer Sailings

Royal Caribbean just took delivery of its newest mega-ship. Here’s what cruisers need to know about the Legend of the Seas.

Royal Caribbean Welcomes Legend of the Seas

The Legend of the Seas is officially part of the Royal Caribbean fleet. It’s the cruise line’s third Icon-class ship and was built at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Turku, Finland.

Construction took nearly two years. Sea trials began in April 2026. A formal delivery ceremony brought together more than 1,200 crew members and partners to mark the occasion.

Royal Caribbean Group Chairman and CEO Jason Liberty spoke at the event. He said: “Today’s delivery of Legend of the Seas marks another important milestone in our ambition to continuously redefine the vacation experience. This new ship reflects the strength of the vacation ecosystem we are building — combining industry-leading ships, innovative technology, and exceptional experiences for our guests.”

Where Will Legend of the Seas Sail?

Europe First

The ship heads to Cadiz, Spain, first for some final outfitting work. After that, it kicks off its inaugural season in Europe this summer.

Guests can sail seven-night Western Mediterranean itineraries. Departures will run from both Barcelona, Spain, and Rome (Civitavecchia), Italy.

Then It Comes to the U.S.

Good news for American cruisers! In November 2026, Legend of the Seas arrives in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

From there, it will offer two Caribbean itinerary options. Travelers can choose a six-night Western Caribbean cruise or an eight-night Southern Caribbean sailing.

What Makes This Ship Special?

Legend of the Seas is Royal Caribbean’s fourth ship powered by liquefied natural gas, or LNG. This cleaner fuel source is part of the company’s push toward greener cruising. Royal Caribbean has set a goal of launching a net-zero cruise ship by 2035.

Meyer Turku CEO Casimir Lindholm highlighted the ship’s technical achievements. He noted: “Legend of the Seas is an exceptional project in terms of both scale and technical complexity, requiring strong expertise and seamless collaboration across the entire maritime cluster. At the same time, Legend of the Seas moves shipbuilding towards more energy-efficient and environmentally sustainable solutions.”

More Icon-Class Ships Are on the Way

Royal Caribbean has a long-term deal with Meyer Turku that runs through 2036. Under this agreement, more Icon-class ships are already in the pipeline.

A fifth Icon-class ship is set for delivery in 2028. A sixth and seventh will follow in 2029 and 2030. Royal Caribbean fans have a lot to look forward to in the coming years.
