According to a news release from the Official Gazette of the Federation:
“To guarantee the right to health protection, the law shall penalize all activities related to electronic cigarettes, vapes, and other analogous systems or devices as determined by law; as well as the production, distribution, and sale of toxic substances, chemical precursors, the illicit use of fentanyl, and other unauthorized synthetic drugs.”
Cruise passengers started hearing about the changes right away. Members of the Margaritaville at Sea Island Fans Facebook group got this warning:
“As of January 16, 2026, Mexico is enforcing a nationwide ban on the importation and sale of vapes and e-cigarettes. Travelers caught entering Mexico with a vape can expect immediate confiscation and on-the-spot fines.”
But confiscation and fines aren’t the worst of it.
The Penalties Are Serious
