Supplies to Jamaica

Royal Caribbean stepped up to help Jamaica recover from Hurricane Melissa. The cruise line sent one of its ships to deliver much-needed supplies to the island nation.

The Rhapsody of the Seas arrived in Falmouth today carrying over 120 pallets of relief supplies. This marked the first cruise ship to dock at the port since Hurricane Melissa hit Jamaica.

What Supplies Were Delivered?

The ship brought essential items to help hurricane victims. The cargo included bottled water, bedding, medical supplies, and food items. These supplies will be packed into relief packages for immediate distribution.

Royal Caribbean’s relief partner, GEM, will help distribute the aid packages. This partnership ensures the supplies reach people who need them most.

Cruise Line CEO Thanks Jamaica

Royal Caribbean’s President and CEO Michael Bayley praised Jamaica’s response to the relief mission. “A huge thank you to the Falmouth Port Authority and community for opening the port,” Bayley said in a social media update.

The relief call was actually part of a scheduled cruise itinerary. The Rhapsody of the Seas was sailing a six-night repositioning cruise from Puerto Rico to Tampa for its winter season.

Jamaica’s Tourism Recovery Plans

The hurricane seriously damaged Jamaica’s tourism industry. However, the country has big plans for recovery. Jamaica is hoping to reopen its tourism industry on Dec. 15, 2025.

Tourism Minister Hon. Edmund Bartlett activated a recovery task force. The government is working with private companies to coordinate the recovery effort. Their goal is to align marketing, communications, infrastructure repairs, aid, and logistics.

Other Cruise Lines Join Relief Efforts

Royal Caribbean wasn’t the only cruise line to help Jamaica. Carnival Cruise Line also delivered supplies earlier this week.

The Carnival Horizon docked in Ocho Rios with relief cargo. The ship brought bottled water, baby food, diapers, canned goods, cereal, and hygiene products.

Several other cruise companies made financial donations to Jamaica’s relief funds. Carnival Corporation, Holland America, and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings all contributed money to help with recovery efforts.
