Virgin Reroutes Brilliant Lady as Hurricane Rachel Threatens Mexican Riviera
Virgin Voyages has changed the itinerary of the next Brilliant Lady sailing due to adverse weather off the West Coast.
According to a statement published on the company's website, the ship will no longer head to the Mexican Riviera after departing Los Angeles on Oct. 10, 2026.

Instead, the ship will sail an alternative itinerary along California and Baja California, dropping scheduled calls at Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlán and Puerto Vallarta.
"We've been closely monitoring the projected paths for Hurricane Rachel and Tropical Storm Simon," Virgin said.
"After carefully considering the latest forecast, we've made the decision to adjust the Brilliant Lady's planned route," the company continued.
"With ports understandably limited at such short notice, we've worked hard behind the scenes to secure an alternative itinerary that still gives you an incredible vacation," Virgin added.
The company said that the Brilliant Lady will now visit Santa Barbara, San Diego and Ensenada before returning to Los Angeles as scheduled on Oct. 17, 2026.
"We know this isn't the itinerary you originally planned, and we recognize it's a significant change," the company said, noting that the safety of its guests and crew is a top priority.
Virgin also warned that temperatures will likely be cooler at the new destinations and advised guests to pack warmer layers and a light jacket.
Shore excursions booked through Virgin for the dropped ports of call will be canceled, with full refunds issued to the original form of payment.
According to the company, the new itinerary includes destinations that offer "beautiful coastlines, seaside charm, coastal energy, food, wine and culture."
After completing Virgin's first summer cruise program in Alaska, the Brilliant Lady began its fall West Coast season in September.
The vessel's prior cruise also had to be adjusted due to impact from Hurricane Rachel, which forced the cancellation of a planned call at Cabo San Lucas.
