Norwegian Sun’s Scenic Route to Northern Europe
The Norwegian Sun recently made its way to Northern Europe for a summer season. But getting there was half the adventure.

The ship repositioned from Asia and stopped at the Port of Southampton along the way. It completed a 22-night cruise that took guests through Africa and the Canary Islands first.
The voyage started in Cape Town, South Africa. From there, the ship visited Namibia, Angola, Ghana, the Ivory Coast, Senegal, Spain, and Portugal.
Unique Ports You Don’t See Every Day
This wasn’t your typical cruise route. The itinerary featured some truly off-the-beaten-path stops.
Highlights included Walvis Bay, Luanda, Takoradi, Abidjan, and Dakar. Before reaching the UK, the ship also called on Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Funchal, and Vigo.
What’s on the Schedule This Summer
After arriving in Northern Europe, the Norwegian Sun kicked off a seven-night cruise to Copenhagen. The Danish capital serves as one of the ship’s main homeports this season.
The summer lineup includes seven- to 10-night sailings between Copenhagen and Helsinki, Finland. That gives cruisers plenty of options for exploring the region.
Baltic and Scandinavian Destinations
The itineraries cover some of Europe’s most popular summer destinations. Guests can visit Oslo, Norway; Tallinn, Estonia; Riga, Latvia; Kiel, Germany; Klaipeda, Lithuania; and Gdynia, Poland.
The summer season runs through mid-October. That’s a solid stretch of time to explore Northern Europe.
What Comes Next for Norwegian Sun
Once the European season wraps up, the Norwegian Sun heads to New York City via a transatlantic crossing. It then repositions to PortMiami before starting its Caribbean season in early November.
The Caribbean schedule features 11- and 12-night cruises. These sailings include partial Panama Canal transits and stops in Central America.
The Ship’s Future After NCL
Here’s some big news for fans of this ship. The Norwegian Sun is set to leave the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet in 2027.
The ship will be transferred to India-based Cordelia Cruises as part of a charter deal announced in 2025. It will be renamed the Cordelia Sun and will sail itineraries around India and Southeast Asia.
The Norwegian Sun will join the former Norwegian Sky, which is also being transferred to Cordelia Cruises. So this ship has one more European summer ahead before a big new chapter begins.
