Holland America Line's 2028 Grand Voyages: The Complete Booking Guide

The Ultimate Guide to Holland America Lines 2028 Grand Voyages: Now Open for Booking

Holland America Line just opened bookings for two epic 2028 Grand Voyages. Here’s what you need to know about these bucket-list cruises.

Holland America’s 2028 Grand Voyages Are Now Open for Booking

Both voyages are aboard smaller, classic Holland America ships. One is a 129-day world cruise, and the other is a 90-day journey through Australia and New Zealand. Both ships will stop in Bora Bora — a first for two Grand Voyages visiting that port in the same season.

Paul Grigsby, Holland America’s vice president of deployment and revenue planning, explained the thinking behind the routes: “When we plan a Grand Voyage, we are looking closely at how each part of the itinerary connects and how much time guests will have in each region.”

He added: “For 2028, the focus was on building routes that make sense from start to finish, with meaningful time in destinations like Antarctica, New Zealand and the South Pacific, paired with scenic passages that are integral to the journey.”

2028 Grand World Voyage (129 Days)

The Basics

This voyage departs Fort Lauderdale on January 4, 2028. It visits 45 ports across 26 countries and territories on six continents. That’s an incredible amount of ground — or rather, ocean — to cover.

Where Does the Ship Go?

The journey starts in the Caribbean and heads south through South America toward Antarctica. Guests get a full Antarctic Experience, plus time in the Beagle Channel, Glacier Alley, and the Chilean Fjords.

From there, the ship crosses the equator on its way to Easter Island. It then sails through the South Pacific and French Polynesia. Next comes New Zealand, with eight days and six ports to explore.

After New Zealand, the route continues through Australia, Southeast Asia, and Sri Lanka. The ship then rounds the Cape of Good Hope and sails up Africa’s west coast. Finally, it crosses the Atlantic Ocean and returns to Fort Lauderdale.

Bonus: Multi-Day Safari Option

Guests on this voyage can add a multi-day overland safari in South Africa. This is a great way to experience the African wilderness without booking a separate trip.

2028 Grand Australia & New Zealand Voyage (90 Days)

The Basics

This voyage departs San Diego on January 30, 2028. It visits 41 ports in 12 countries and territories across two continents. At 90 days, it’s a slightly shorter commitment than the world cruise — but still an amazing adventure.

Where Does the Ship Go?

The ship heads west through Hawaii and the South Pacific. It crosses the International Date Line on the way to New Zealand. After exploring New Zealand, it continues through Australia.

On the return trip, the ship sails through Melanesia, Fiji, Samoa, and French Polynesia. This means guests get two passes through some of the most beautiful islands in the world.

Bonus: Margaret River Overland Tour

Passengers on this voyage can add a multi-day trip to Western Australia’s Margaret River region. This area is known for its stunning scenery, world-class wineries, and rugged coastline.

Which Grand Voyage Is Right for You?

If you want to see the whole world in one trip, the 129-day Grand World Voyage on the Volendam is hard to beat. If Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific are your dream destinations, the 90-day voyage on the Zaandam is a fantastic choice. Either way, Holland America has put serious thought into making every part of the journey worthwhile.
