Celebrity Cruises Doubles Its River Fleet: 2028 Voyages Now Open for Booking

Celebrity River Cruises Plans to Double Its Fleet by 2031

Celebrity River Cruises hasn’t even launched yet but its growing fast. The brand, set to launch in 2027, has announced plans to expand its European river cruise fleet to 20 ships by 2031. That means 10 brand-new vessels are on the way.

This news comes after the line’s debut 2027 sailings sold out almost instantly. The inaugural Danube and Rhine itineraries were snapped up in under six minutes. Clearly, travelers are eager to experience river cruising the Celebrity way.

2028 Bookings Are Now Open

Celebrity River Cruises has opened bookings for its 2028 season. Travelers can choose from more than 160 sailings to over 50 destinations across Europe. That’s a big jump — the 2028 season covers 80% more ports than the debut season.

The itineraries cover some of Europe’s most beloved rivers and cities. You could sail the Rhine through the vineyards of Alsace. Or follow the Danube to Budapest’s famous old market halls. You might even wake up in Prague and end your day at a cozy café in Vienna.

Special Events and Seasonal Sailings

The 2028 season includes some truly unique experiences. One sailing stops in Straubing, Germany, during the Gäuboden Festival. Others are timed for the Dutch tulip season in spring. There are also Christmas market cruises planned for the holiday season.

What Does It Cost?

Prices start at £2,115 per person. That rate is based on a six-night sailing from Nuremberg, Germany, to Vienna, Austria. The departure date for that sailing is November 16, 2028.

Note: Pricing is listed in British pounds. U.S. dollar pricing may vary, so check with Celebrity River Cruises directly for current rates.

What Celebrity’s Leadership Is Saying

The excitement around this expansion is coming straight from the top. Jason Liberty, chairman and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group — Celebrity’s parent company — shared his enthusiasm.

“Guest demand for Celebrity River Cruises has exceeded our expectations, and expanding the fleet allows us to bring this highly anticipated experience to even more travelers,” Liberty said. “Whether guests already love the Celebrity experience or are discovering it for the first time, they now have new ways to enjoy it along some of Europe’s most iconic rivers.”

Celebrity Cruises President Laura Hodges Bethge echoed that energy. “Our inaugural 2027 Celebrity River Cruises season sold out in under six minutes — a testament to how much guests value the unmatched hospitality and service Celebrity delivers,” she said. “To meet this extraordinary demand, we’re thrilled to open 2028 sailings featuring 80 per cent more European destinations, five ships, and more than 160 itineraries. There are now more ways than ever to experience Europe’s rivers ‘The Celebrity Way.'”

Construction Has Already Started

Celebrity isn’t waiting around. Construction on the new fleet is already underway. The first steel cut for Celebrity Compass — the line’s very first river ship — happened just last week.

This is a major milestone. It signals that Celebrity River Cruises is moving full speed ahead toward its 2027 launch and beyond.

Why This Matters for U.S. Cruise Travelers

For American travelers who love Celebrity Cruises, this is exciting news. River cruising in Europe has been hugely popular for years. Now, a brand known for upscale ocean cruising is bringing its signature style to the rivers.

With 20 ships planned by 2031 and hundreds of itineraries in the works, there will be plenty of chances to experience this new way to explore Europe. If the 2027 season sold out in minutes, it’s smart to keep a close eye on 2028 sailings before they disappear too.
