Royal Caribbean Unveils Its Next Icon Class Ship and the Details Are Impressive

Hero of the Seas: What to Know About Royal Caribbean’s Newest Ship

Royal Caribbean just dropped some big news for cruise fans. Meet Hero of the Seas, the newest Icon Class ship set to make waves in 2027.

What Is Hero of the Seas?

Hero of the Seas is Royal Caribbean’s next Icon Class mega ship. It will launch in August 2027 with Caribbean sailings from Miami. The ship joins its sister ships — Icon of the Seas, Star of the Seas, and the upcoming Legend of the Seas.

Like its siblings, Hero will have eight distinct neighborhoods on board. Each area offers something different for families. Think restaurants, pools, waterslides, and entertainment — all under one roof (or deck).

Royal Caribbean’s CEO Michael Bayley is clearly excited about this one. He said, “Icon Class truly set a new standard for family vacations, and Hero of the Seas takes that vision even further. With more water, more thrills and more choices for all ages, we’re continuing to build on what our guests love about Royal Caribbean and delivering the experiences families are looking for when vacationing together.”

More Pools Than Any Ship at Sea

A new swimming pool will be available by the Lime and Coconut bar aboard Hero of the Seas

Royal Caribbean already knows how to do pools. But Hero of the Seas is taking it up a notch. The ship will feature nine distinct pools — the most ever on a cruise ship. Other Icon Class ships top out at seven.

One of the new pools is called Coconut Cove. It sits right next to The Lime and Coconut, a Caribbean-themed bar. Guests can relax on in-water loungers and enjoy poolside service.

The adults-only Hideaway area gets two pools of its own. It will also have the largest swim-up bar at sea, complete with an in-water DJ booth. That sounds like a pretty great afternoon to us.

A Bigger, Better Waterpark

Royal Caribbean's Hero of the Seas will have a larger waterpark

The Icon Class ships already have the biggest waterparks at sea. Hero plans to go even further. The ship will add two new family raft slides, including the very first funnel raft slide ever built on a cruise ship.

Fans of the mat-racing Storm Chasers slide will also see new twists on that fan favorite. Whether you’re riding with the kids or racing your partner, the waterpark on Hero looks like a blast.

New Dining Experiences You Won’t Find Anywhere Else

New immersive dining experiences will be available on Hero of the Seas

Hero of the Seas will have a record 28 dining venues on board. That’s more than any other cruise ship sailing today. Here are some of the standout new options:

  • Orleans Parish Supper Club – A lively supper club featuring live jazz, craft cocktails, and gourmet Cajun and Creole dishes.
  • Royal Railway – Hero Station – An immersive dining experience where guests are “transported by train car” to different destinations.
  • Cooking Classes at Surfside – Families can learn kitchen skills together in a fun, hands-on setting.
  • AquaDome Market – A food hall returning with four brand-new stall concepts.
  • Crème de la Crêpe – A sweet spot dedicated to desserts.
  • Simply Pressed – A fresh juice bar for a lighter option.

The dining lineup on Hero covers everything from quick bites to full dinner experiences. There’s truly something for every taste and budget.

Family Suites Built for Everyone

Families will be able to stay in a new Treehouse Suite aboard Hero of the Seas

Like other Icon Class ships, Hero will offer a variety of family suite options. The most eye-catching new addition is the Ultimate Family Treehouse Suite. It spans three decks and is packed with features families will love.

The suite includes a rooftop terrace, a private whirlpool, and a two-deck teen space. There are also two main bedrooms, each with its own bathroom and private balcony. It’s basically a luxury vacation home — just floating in the Caribbean.

What Stays the Same (Because It Works)

Not everything on Hero is brand new. Many of the beloved Icon Class features are making a return. Guests can look forward to the Royal Promenade with its restaurants and pick-up windows for sushi and champagne. Central Park will once again be lined with more than 30,500 real plants.

Entertainment fans will also find the Royal Theater, the AquaTheater, and Absolute Zero — the largest ice arena at sea. These are crowd favorites for good reason, and they’re back and better than ever.

When Can You Sail on Hero of the Seas?

Hero of the Seas sets sail in August 2027 from Miami. Bookings are open now for passengers eager to be among the first to experience the ship. If you’re planning a family cruise vacation in 2027, this one is worth putting on your radar early.
