The second ship in Celebrity Cruises’ Solstice class, the Celebrity Equinox, is celebrating 15 years in service this July. Constructed in Papenburg, Germany, the 2,850-guest vessel was delivered to Celebrity Cruises on July 16, 2009, after transiting the River Ems.
The Equinox was formally named at a ceremony in Southampton, England, on July 30, 2009, with Nina Barough, CBE, as the godmother. It began revenue service the following day with an eight-night cruise to the Norwegian Fjords before repositioning to the Mediterranean for its inaugural season.
Since then, the ship has crossed the Atlantic, spent a winter in the Caribbean, and now offers Mediterranean itineraries departing from Spain and Italy for its 16th summer season. In November, the Celebrity Equinox will debut in Port Canaveral, offering cruises to the Bahamas, Belize, Grand Cayman, Mexico, San Juan, and St. Maarten.
After another Mediterranean summer in 2025, the Equinox will head to South America for the 2025-26 winter season. The ship has undergone several refurbishments, with a major modernization in 2019 as part of the Celebrity Revolution program.
