Celebrating 25 Years of Celebrity Infinity Sailing the Seas
Celebrity Infinity just hit a major milestone — 25 years of sailing the seas for Celebrity Cruises!
A Ship With Deep Roots
The Celebrity Infinity was built at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in France. Celebrity took delivery of the ship on February 25, 2001. It was the second vessel in the cruise line’s Millennium-class fleet.

The Infinity made its grand entrance with a trans-Atlantic crossing to Fort Lauderdale. From there, it set off on its maiden voyage on March 3, 2001. That first sailing was a 14-night Panama Canal transit, stopping at Caribbean and Central American ports before wrapping up in San Diego.
Early Years and Wide-Ranging Itineraries
During its first season, the 2,170-passenger ship offered 10- and 11-night sailings along the West Coast and to Hawaii. It then headed north to Alaska for the summer. It was quite a debut year for a brand-new ship!
Over the next two-plus decades, the Infinity sailed to destinations all over the world. Its route map included South America, the Caribbean, and Northern Europe. Few ships can claim such a diverse sailing history.
A New Chapter in Europe
In early 2023, Celebrity Infinity became part of a big shift for the cruise line. Celebrity launched its first-ever year-round operation in Europe, with the Infinity taking up full-time residence in the Mediterranean. It was a bold move that signaled just how popular European cruising has become.
Earlier in 2026, the ship went into drydock in Marseille, France, for routine maintenance. After coming out of drydock, a technical issue caused the cancellation of a planned Eastern Mediterranean sailing from Piraeus, Greece. The ship spent 11 days docked at the Greek port while repairs were completed.
Where Celebrity Infinity Is Headed Next
The Infinity is back in action and sailing the Greek Islands and the Aegean through late fall. Some exciting ports on its current schedule include Thessaloniki and Nafplio in Greece, Limassol in Cyprus, and Dubrovnik in Croatia. These are bucket-list destinations for many travelers.
Winter and Beyond
This winter, the ship will reposition to Barcelona for sailings to the Canary Islands and the Western Mediterranean. Then, in March 2027, the Infinity heads back to the Eastern Mediterranean for more cruises out of Piraeus. There’s plenty more adventure ahead for this 25-year-old veteran of the seas.
