Great news for cruise fans in the South! Carnival Cruise Line just announced some exciting changes coming to Mobile, Alabama. The cruise line is bringing back year-round sailings from the port. Even better, they’re upgrading to a bigger ship than ever before.
A New Ship for Mobile
Starting May 15, 2027, the Carnival Valor will call Mobile home. This marks a big milestone for the Alabama port. The Valor is a Conquest-class ship, which is the largest type of vessel Carnival has ever based in Mobile year-round.
The ship will offer cruises lasting six to eight days. Popular destinations include the Bahamas, Carnival’s private islands, and other Caribbean spots. Guests can visit Half Moon Cay, Celebration Key, and RelaxAway during these trips.
What Carnival’s President Says
“Mobile has been an important part of the Carnival family, and we’re thrilled to mark the return of year-round deployment with our first-ever Conquest-class ship serving the market,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line.
This quote shows how much Carnival values the Mobile market. The cruise line clearly sees potential for growth in Alabama.
Before the Move
The Carnival Valor won’t head straight to Mobile. First, she’ll finish her current schedule in New Orleans. Her final sailings from the Big Easy include a five-day cruise on May 1. Two shorter four-day trips to Mexico will follow on May 6 and May 10.
This transition gives the ship time to wrap up commitments. It also lets Carnival prepare Mobile for the bigger vessel.
Special Longer Cruises
The Valor will offer more than just week-long trips. Two special 14-day Carnival Journeys sailings are planned. These longer cruises visit more exotic destinations.
The first long cruise departs September 26. It heads to the Caribbean and Panama Canal region. Stops include Jamaica, Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica, Mexico, Aruba, and Curacao.
The second 14-day sailing leaves January 16. This Southern Caribbean adventure visits Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Dominican Republic, U.S. Virgin Islands, Aruba, Curacao, and Celebration Key.
Holiday Sailing
Carnival planned something special for Thanksgiving week. A seven-day cruise departs November 20 for the holiday. This sailing visits Key West, Florida, plus Nassau and Celebration Key in the Bahamas.
Holiday cruises are popular with families. Having this option from Mobile makes it easier for Southern travelers.
What Happens Until 2027
Carnival won’t leave Mobile empty until the Valor arrives. The smaller Carnival Spirit will continue seasonal service. She’ll sail from Mobile between October 2026 and April 2027.
This keeps cruise options available for local travelers. It also maintains Carnival’s presence in the market.
Other Ship Changes
The announcements include updates for other Carnival ships too. The Carnival Glory stays at Port Canaveral in Florida. She’ll keep offering three- and four-day short cruises.
The Carnival Conquest remains based in Miami. Her schedule includes three- to five-day sailings to nearby destinations. Both ships visit the Bahamas, including Carnival’s private islands.
More Long Cruises
The Carnival Conquest will also offer special longer sailings. An 11-day Carnival Journeys cruise departs November 1. Destinations include Antigua, Barbados, Dominica, Celebration Key, and St. Thomas.
Another long cruise from the Conquest leaves November 19. This trip visits French Caribbean islands like St. Lucia, Guadeloupe, and Martinique. It also stops in St. Maarten, St. Thomas, and Celebration Key.
Why This Matters for Cruisers
These changes give Southern cruise fans more options. Mobile’s location makes it convenient for travelers from Alabama, Mississippi, and nearby states. Having a larger ship means more amenities and activities onboard.
The Conquest-class ships hold about 3,000 passengers. They offer multiple dining venues, entertainment options, and cabin types. This upgrade from smaller ships gives Mobile cruisers a better experience.
Year-round service also means more sailing dates. Travelers can plan trips during their preferred times. They’re not limited to just a few months each year.
