Carnival Alters Cruise Itineraries Amid Hurricane Debby

Due to the effects of Hurricane Debby, at least two Carnival Cruise Line ships have had to adjust their schedules.
Carnival’s weather contributor, Amy Sweezey, reported that both the Carnival Paradise and the Carnival Elation had to modify their return plans to Florida because of the storm.
“There have been some impacts in Tampa, Jacksonville, and we’re keeping an eye on Charleston as well,” Sweezey shared in a video update.
Sweezey explained that the storm made landfall in Florida on Monday and is now moving toward Georgia and South Carolina.
One of the affected ships, Carnival Paradise, was delayed in returning to Port Tampa Bay, which is currently closed for ship traffic.
“It had to wait and couldn’t come back to port as scheduled, so it will be a day late. This also delays the next sailing for Paradise,” Sweezey noted.
Passengers scheduled to board the ship are advised to wait for email and text confirmations from Carnival as the situation is continually evolving.
Originally set to dock in Tampa on Aug. 5, Carnival Paradise is now expected to arrive on Aug. 6 once the port reopens.
The Carnival Elation was also affected by Debby, arriving at its homeport in Jacksonville a day earlier than planned on Aug. 4.
“It had to leave Jacksonville a day early. Fortunately, it avoided the worst of the weather, which is currently in Jacksonville,” Sweezey explained, thanking guests for their flexibility and cooperation.
The Carnival Sunshine, now on a five-night cruise to the Bahamas from Charleston, might also be impacted by Debby.
“The Fleet Operations Center in Miami is closely monitoring the storm as it nears South Carolina,” said Sweezey.
She added that the storm is expected to slow down, bringing rain to the region for several days.
“If you have an upcoming trip on the Sunshine in the next few days, make sure to get our text alerts, check your emails, and listen for any announcements with changes,” Sweezey advised, emphasizing that Carnival’s top priority is guest safety.
