Carnival Spirit Down to Single Port Call on 15-Night Repositioning Cruise

Carnival Cruise Line adjusted the itinerary of the Carnival Spirit due to adverse weather conditions on the West Coast.

According to a statement sent to guests, a visit to Puntarenas, Costa Rica, that was scheduled for Saturday, October 17, 2026, had to be cancelled.

The Carnival Spirit is currently offering a repositioning voyage to Mobile that departed from Seattle earlier this year.

In addition to a transit of the Panama Canal, the 16-night cruise originally included visits to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico; Puntarenas, Costa Rica; and Cartagena de Indias, Colombia.

With the most recent change, the ship is only scheduled to visit the Colombian port before heading to its homeport in Alabama.

"We made every effort to reach Puntarenas, but after sailing a wider route to avoid the most severe weather from Hurricane Trudy, strong opposite currents reduced our speed," Captain Lorenzo Calogero said in a statement issued onboard.

"Unfortunately, we will not be able to arrive within the required entry window to call on the destination," he added.

With a planned visit to Cabo San Lucas cancelled due to delays in the ship's departure from Seattle, which was postponed by one day, the visit to Costa Rica was set to be the cruise's first.

"We will spend the day at sea as we make our way to Panama. We are truly sorry the weather is interfering with our plans," Calogero added.

He noted that the safety of guests and crew is the company's priority, while thanking guests for their understanding.

Shore excursions booked through Carnival for Puntarenas were automatically cancelled, with fares refunded to passengers' onboard accounts.

"My team and I remain committed to making sure the rest of your voyage is safe, fun and memorable," Calogero added.

After transiting the Panama Canal on Monday, October 19, 2026, the Carnival Spirit is scheduled to visit Cartagena de Indias on Tuesday, October 20, 2026.

The vessel will then spend four days cruising the Caribbean before concluding the repositioning voyage in Mobile.
