"One of the goals of Holland America Evolution is to celebrate the traditions that have always made us special while introducing fresh experiences for today's guests," said Beth Bodensteiner, president of Holland America Line. "Bar 1873 is one of the most exciting examples of that vision."
As part of the Evolution enhancements, the Oosterdam will also debut a reimagined Crow's Nest.
In a press release, the company said Bar 1873 will become a hallmark of the Holland America Evolution program. Different ships will offer their own interpretation of the venue, drawing inspiration from a different story, tradition or milestone from the cruise line's more than 150-year history.
On the Oosterdam, the venue's theme, "May She Be Blessed," honors the maritime tradition of ship christenings and the godmothers who have helped launch generations of Holland America Line ships.
Designed in partnership with London-based design firm SMC, Bar 1873 is built around the Oosterdam's central atrium on Deck 2. Surrounding the tulip are more than 200 heritage and repurposed objects, bespoke artwork and a visual timeline tracing the company's legacy. The design also includes subtle tributes to Holland America Line's past.
The Oosterdam's Bar 1873 draws from the 1958 christening of Rotterdam V by Queen Juliana of the Netherlands.
Live piano performances will serve as a centerpiece of the experience during pre-dinner cocktail hours and throughout the evening, complemented by select appearances from vocalists and Holland America Line's Vivace musicians.
Holland America Line stated that Bar 1873 features "May She Be Blessed," a celebratory cocktail named for the blessing traditionally bestowed upon a ship before it enters service. Guests can personalize the drink.
The menu will also feature modern interpretations of classic favorites.Â
Other onboard ship highlights include an expanded live music program. In the evening, guests can enjoy performances featuring favorite songs from the 1970s through today.
The Holland America Evolution will revitalize all six Vista Class and Signature Class ships, beginning with the Oosterdam and Zuiderdam and extending to the Arcadia.Â
Bookings are now open for cruises aboard the Oosterdam and Zuiderdam following their transformations.
