Holland America Line just announced some exciting news for cruise travelers planning ahead. Bookings are now open for its 2028 Europe season, and it’s shaping up to be one of the biggest yet.
What Makes the 2028 Europe Season Special
Holland America Line is going all in on Europe in 2028. The cruise line will offer its highest number of European port calls in nearly a decade. That includes record-breaking visits to Norway, Spain, Ireland, and the Netherlands.

Sailings run from January through December 2028. Trip lengths range from seven to 48 days, so there’s something for every type of traveler.
Mediterranean Cruises in 2028
Mediterranean sailings last between seven and 11 nights. Six different homeports offer departure options, giving travelers plenty of flexibility.
Ships will visit Spain, Italy, Greece, Croatia, and Turkey. The Nieuw Amsterdam will also return to Europe for the first time in over ten years. Holland America will also make a record six stops at the scenic Italian port of Portofino in 2028.
Northern Europe Voyages
Three ships will sail Northern Europe routes: the Rotterdam, Nieuw Statendam, and Zuiderdam. These voyages range from seven to 28 days.
Destinations include Norway, Iceland, Greenland, the British Isles, and the Baltic region. This season will feature Holland America’s highest number of Norway visits since 2014.
Canary Islands Itineraries
The Canary Islands are a highlight of the 2028 season. Ships will stop at popular spots like Tenerife, Gran Canaria, and Lanzarote. These itineraries are paired with ports in Portugal, Spain, and Morocco.

Winter in Europe (January–March)
The Nieuw Statendam kicks off the year with Canary Islands voyages. Ports of call include Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Lisbon, and Casablanca. These are destinations that are usually only visited during the busy summer season.
Spring in Europe (March–May)
Four ships set sail during spring: the Rotterdam, Nieuw Statendam, Nieuw Amsterdam, and Zuiderdam. They’ll cover the Mediterranean, the Low Countries, and Northern Europe. Popular ports include Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Bruges, Barcelona, Athens, and Naples.
Summer in Europe (June–August)
All five Holland America ships will be sailing across Europe this summer. Routes cover Norway, Iceland, the British Isles, the Baltic, Greece, Croatia, and Turkey. This is the peak season, so expect the widest variety of itineraries.
Autumn in Europe (September–November)
Fall sailings continue through the Mediterranean and Northern Europe. The Rotterdam, Nieuw Statendam, Nieuw Amsterdam, and Volendam are the featured ships. Ports span Spain, Italy, Greece, Croatia, Ireland, and the Netherlands.
Late Fall (November–Early December)
The season winds down with sailings on the Nieuw Statendam, Rotterdam, and other ships in the region. Travelers can choose from Mediterranean, Canary Islands, and transatlantic options. Destinations include Barcelona, Lisbon, Tenerife, and Fort Lauderdale.
