A Closer Look at Norwegian Jade and Gem Upgrades
Norwegian Cruise Line just gave two of its ships a serious upgrade. Here’s what’s new on the Norwegian Jade and Norwegian Gem after their recent refurbishments.
Big Changes Aboard Norwegian Jade and Norwegian Gem
Both ships went through drydock maintenance in April 2025. They returned to service in May with a fresh look and plenty of new features.

NCL President Marc Kazlauskas explained the thinking behind the updates: “Listening to our guests and delivering exceptional experiences across our fleet is at the heart of what we do.”
He added, “These recent transformations bring some of our most beloved amenities to Norwegian Jade and Norwegian Gem, creating greater consistency across our fleet while giving guests more ways to personalize their vacation — from adults-only outdoor spaces to serene relaxation areas designed to help them unwind at sea.”
Upgraded Spa Experiences on Both Ships
The Mandara Spa got a major makeover on both vessels. The Thermal Suite now has more hot tile loungers and a better layout. The reception area was updated, and the steam rooms and saunas were refreshed too.
New Spa Features Added to Both Ships
Several brand-new wellness experiences were added, including:
- Charcoal Sauna – Uses radiant heat with an outer charcoal layer
- Ice Room – Filled with cold air for contrast therapy
- Salt Room – A calming, salt-infused space
- IV Lounge – A dedicated relaxation area
- Four-Senses Loungers – Designed for a full sensory experience
What’s Exclusive to the Jade
The Jade got a few extras that the Gem didn’t receive. These include Experiential Showers with multiple water jets and lighting effects. A cold-water Plunge Pool was also added for a quick, refreshing dip.
What’s Exclusive to the Gem
The Gem received updates to its hot tub and Thalassotherapy pool. These improvements make the spa area feel more polished and relaxing.
Vibe Beach Club Comes to Both Ships
The popular Vibe Beach Club is now available on both the Jade and the Gem. The existing sundeck on Deck 14 was converted into this adults-only retreat. It features more than 50 lounge chairs and seven private cabanas.
If you’ve never tried the Vibe Beach Club, it’s one of NCL’s most loved perks. It’s a quieter, more relaxed alternative to the main pool deck.
Starbucks Comes to the Norwegian Jade
Coffee lovers sailing on the Jade are in for a treat. A fully licensed Starbucks store was added to the ship. You can grab your favorite drink while enjoying views of Alaska or wherever your voyage takes you.
Where Are These Ships Sailing?
Norwegian Jade – Alaska
The Jade is currently sailing seven-day Alaska itineraries. Departures are from Vancouver, British Columbia, and Whittier (near Anchorage), Alaska. These sailings run through late summer 2026. Later in 2026, the Jade will reposition to Asia.
Norwegian Gem – Mediterranean and Greek Isles
The Gem is focused on Europe right now. It departs from Rome (Civitavecchia) or Venice (Ravenna), Italy. Ports of call include Cannes, France; Florence/Pisa (Livorno), Italy; and Split and Dubrovnik, Croatia. In late 2026, the Gem heads to the Caribbean and Bahamas, sailing out of Tampa, Florida.
