Royal Caribbean Hero of the Seas Gets Its Giant Glass Aquadome

Royal Caribbean’s next mega-ship just hit a major construction milestone. The Hero of the Seas recently received one of its most iconic features — and it took a massive lift to get it there.

What Just Happened at the Shipyard?

Meyer Turku, the Finnish shipyard building the Hero of the Seas, successfully installed the ship’s Aquadome on June 28, 2026. This giant glass and steel dome is 50 meters wide and 25 meters tall. According to the shipyard, it’s the largest single-piece glass and steel structure ever lifted onto a ship.

The whole operation took about 24 hours to complete. The actual lift itself only took a few hours.

What the Crew Said About the Lift

Elvis Kulovac, a foreman in Meyer Turku’s factory logistics division, shared some details about how it all went down.

“This was already the fourth Aquadome lift. The entire operation went exceptionally well in terms of both timing and schedule,” he said.

He also noted that the weather played a big role in the success. “The prep work had been carried out carefully, and the conditions were perfect. There was virtually no wind, which is crucial for a lift of this scale.”

What Is the Aquadome?

The Aquadome is part of a larger entertainment complex on board. It will feature an aquatic theater along with restaurants, bars, and lounges. It’s one of the most eye-catching spaces on Royal Caribbean’s Icon-class ships.

If you’ve sailed on the Icon of the Seas or the Star of the Seas, you’ve already seen a version of this space. The Hero of the Seas will have its own version when it launches.

When Does Hero of the Seas Launch?

The Hero of the Seas is set for delivery in mid-2027. Its maiden voyage is scheduled for August 2027, sailing out of PortMiami.

The ship will carry up to 5,610 passengers. It will be the fourth ship in Royal Caribbean’s Icon class, following the Icon, Star, and Legend of the Seas.

Where Will Hero of the Seas Sail?

During its first season, the Hero of the Seas will run seven-night Caribbean and Bahamas itineraries. Ports of call will include:

• Cozumel, Mexico
• Philipsburg, St. Maarten
• Perfect Day at CocoCay, Bahamas

These are some of the most popular cruise destinations in the Caribbean, so it’s shaping up to be a strong debut season.

What’s Next for Royal Caribbean’s Fleet?

Royal Caribbean has big plans beyond the Hero of the Seas. Meyer Turku has been contracted to build three more Icon-class ships through 2030. The cruise line is also taking delivery of ships from another major French shipyard during the same period, including a new Oasis-class vessel and two Discovery-class ships.

It’s clear that Royal Caribbean is going all in on growing its fleet — and the Hero of the Seas is just the next step in that plan.
