Oceania Cruises Reroutes World Cruise Away From Middle East

Oceania Cruises just made a major change to one of its most ambitious voyages. Here’s what happened and what it means for the world cruise aboard the Oceania Vista.

Oceania Reroutes Its 180-Night World Cruise

The Oceania Vista set sail from PortMiami earlier this year on a 180-night world cruise. The original plan included sailing through the Suez Canal, the Red Sea, and the Middle East. But those plans have now changed due to security concerns in the region.

Instead of heading through the Middle East, the Vista will now take a completely different path home. The ship will sail through the Indian Ocean, around Africa, up to the Canary Islands, then on to Northern Europe before crossing the Atlantic back to the U.S.

Why Did Oceania Make This Change?

Oceania shared a statement directly with guests onboard explaining the decision. The company pointed to the current political situation in the Gulf States as the main reason.

“In light of the current political situation in the Gulf States, we want to provide you with an update on our robust security protocols and the airline disruptions that have arisen due to the situation,” the company said.

Oceania was clear about where their priorities lie. “First and foremost, the safety and security of our guests and crew are our number one priority,” they added.

The cruise line also noted they didn’t make this call lightly. “In addition to security teams onboard, we have a highly experienced shoreside Security Operations team that works hand-in-hand with the foremost law enforcement, security, intelligence and military agencies across the globe,” Oceania explained. The company said it made daily assessments before reaching its final decision.

What Does the New Itinerary Look Like?

Changes Starting in Singapore

The rerouted itinerary kicks in with the segment departing Singapore on April 27, 2026. The first week of that sailing will stay on its original schedule. After that, the ship heads into different waters.

Instead of visiting India, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt, the Vista will now call on some stunning alternative destinations. Guests can expect stops in the Seychelles, Madagascar, French Comoros, Mozambique, South Africa, and Namibia.

Mediterranean Ports Are Out

Sailing around Africa takes more time, so some ports had to be cut. The previously planned stops in Greece, Italy, Spain, France, and Morocco are no longer on the schedule.

In their place, the Vista will visit Angola, São Tomé and Príncipe, Ivory Coast, Gambia, and Cape Verde. These are destinations many cruisers have never had the chance to visit, which could make the change feel more like an adventure than a setback.

New Stops Added Along the Way

The new route also adds some fresh destinations that weren’t part of the original plan. The Canary Islands, Portugal, and Northern Spain are now included before the ship resumes its original itinerary in Southampton on June 14, 2026.

From Southampton, the voyage continues as planned. Guests will visit England, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland, the Faroe Islands, Iceland, Canada, and the U.S. East Coast before arriving back in Miami in early July.
