Late last year, a panel of six cruise experts*, including myself, were asked to nominate 20 cruise lines or ships for each of five categories, including 10 Best Ocean Cruise Lines. Choosing 20 cruise lines was a lot easier than selecting 20 ships in different categories.

After our nominations were submitted results were tallied and USAToday asked their readers to vote for their favorite cruise lines and ships in several categories. The rest is history.

The 2016 Readers’ Choice Award for 10 Best Ocean Cruise Lines. And the #1 Winner is:

  1.  PRINCESS CRUISES

With 18 ships in their fleet, ranging from the petit Pacific Princess with 688 passengers to the their newer ships with up to  3,600 passengers, Princess Cruises became a household name when the Love Boat TV show was launched in September 1977. Since then, Princess has ships that cruise the world, attracting passengers of all ages. Contemporary design, loads of deck space and highly rated specialty restaurants all contributed to their being chosen #1. Congratulations to Princess and all the winners.
