G Adventures River Cruises

After returning from a backpacking trip in Asia, Bruce Poon Tip was inspired to share his passion for adventure with others, and founded G Adventures in 1990. Now, G Adventures is the world’s largest adventure travel company and has 2,000 employees around the world. The company has an emphasis on responsible travel. They work with local businesses for their trips, and have adopted animal and child welfare guidelines. In addition to river cruises, G Adventures offer land and train tours, expedition cruises, and more.

Ships: 4

How Many Passengers: From 22 to 30 passengers

Personality: Crew members are warm, friendly, and exceptional at their jobs. Each ship has its own unique personality, and all spaces are comfortable and inviting.

Fellow Passengers: The average age on G Adventures is lower than most river cruise lines. You’ll find adventure-loving couples, groups of friends, and even solo travelers who are matched with other passengers traveling solo so that they don’t have to pay the single supplement fee.

Cabins: Range from 118 to 227 square feet. There are many types of cabins: quads, triples, standard doubles, and suites with queen beds and separate sitting areas. All feature an outward-facing window.

Dining: The cuisine on each ship will depend on where it sails. The vessels sailing in Asia serve Asian dishes, the Daniele in France has French dishes, and the Amatista in the Amazon has Amazon-inspired fare. There is also a selection of western cuisine that Americans and Europeans will recognize and enjoy. On the Amatista and Ganges River-sailing Varuna, all meals are buffet-style. On the Daniele and Mekong-sailing Toum Tiou II, there is a mix of sit-down and buffet meals.

Amenities: The ships offer both covered and uncovered outdoor deck space, a lounge, a library or reading area, and some ships have a bar.

Best For: Those seeking a river cruising experience in a unique, off-the-beaten-path format, those that want a more intimate and personal river cruising experience, and solo travelers that are okay with sharing a room with someone new to avoid a single supplement fee

Included Alcohol: None, except on the ship Daniele which sails in France, serves complimentary wine and beer. Alcohol on the other ships is available for purchase.
