Cruise Maven’s 2010 Gold Anchor Awards

Movies have them.  So do television shows, commercials and Broadway plays. What about the cruise lines?  It’s time to give recognition to those cruise line players who, day in and day out, feed, house, entertain and transport thousands of passengers all over the world.

And so, I present my 2010 Gold Anchor Awards, to honor specific, significant and perhaps a bit quirky, segments of the major cruise lines of the world.

Applause, applause.   There you have it: Cruise Maven’s 2010 Gold Anchor Awards.   Yes, I’ve experienced every single one of the mentioned award categories-except outrunning the Somali pirates.  Yes, I’m sure there are other cruise lines/ships which deserve recognition.  But if I couldn’t vouch for their claim to fame, they weren’t included.

Categories such as excellent service, softest beds, itinerary choices etc. are all covered by the major publications; Conde Nast, Frommers, Fodors, etc.  My goal was to shed some light on the more unusual and yet equally important aspects of the cruise experience.

It’s my hope that these little-publicized facts will help you to make an informed decision when planning your next cruise vacation.

Comments and recommendations are welcome!

  • Hi Desne and Larry – always nice to hear from you. Wow…so you did get to do your Egypt/Israel trip after all. I am jealous! I will definitely plan a long weekend getaway over the far-distant west coast very soon. If you didn’t know, I took the NCL Sun from Port Canaveral to Amsterdam in April. It was a fabulous cruise, the ship was in top-notch condition, lood and service were great. Please seek out Rosita Shandy, the Hotel Manager and please tell her I said hello. Also, Tony Rosa, the Food & Beverage manager is also a great guy. I’ll send Rosita an email and let her know you are coming onboard in Copenhagen.

Thanks again for reading my blog! Hope to see you soon. Maybe November-ish? Let me know your plans.
