Only one week before the inaugural celebration, Celebrity Cruises has announced Michelle Morgan, the president and CEO of Signature Travel Network, to serve as Godmother of the new Celebrity Silhouette. As the first travel industry executive to be a Godmother of a Celebrity ship, Morgan will have the honors of presiding at the Silhouette’s naming ceremony in Hamburg, Germany, on July 21.
Said Richard Fain, Chairman of Celebrity Cruises and and CEO of parent company Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. “We are thrilled and honored to have a woman of Michelle’s caliber serve as Godmother of this exceptional ship. Her achievements in business are remarkable, and her personal life is as inspiring as her professional life.”
Morgan joined Signature Travel in 1991 and has seen it grow from 30 locations in Southern California to 350 locations across North America. A recipient of many industry accolades, she was deemed one of Forbes‘ “25 Most Influential Women in Travel,” and was recently inducted into the Cruise Line International Association’s (CLIA) Hall of Fame.
Like the previously named Godmothers in the Celebrity, Morgan has had her battle against breast cancer. Holding steadfast through two series of chemotherapy, surgery and radiation, Michelle remained positive. “I learned many lessons as I went through the treatment,” says Morgan. “I found that if I continued with my life and work, and behaved positively – showing unflinching confidence and optimism to my family, friends, co-workers, and doctors, and banishing any doubts or negative thoughts – it would take over the core of my belief system, and it did. More importantly, my family, friends and industry friends brought me endless joy and hope.”
Breast cancer awareness and research are a priority for Celebrity Cruises and Signature Travel Network. Celebrity Cruises will sponsor the first “Celebrity Sunwalk” in conjunction with Walk the Walk, a breast cancer charity founded by Nina Barough, Godmother of the Celebrity Equinox. Celebrity also plans to hold several fundraising events throughout this year to support breast cancer research.
Beginning July 23, the Celebrity Silhouette will sail from Hamburg to Civitavecchia, Italy to begin a short season of 12-night Mediterranean / Holy land voyages roundtrip from Rome, through October.
The ship will offer Celebrity’s first Solstice Class sailings from the Northeast beginning in November, when Celebrity Silhouette offers 12-night Caribbean vacations roundtrip from the port of Cape Liberty (Bayonne), NJ.

Here’s what I’ve learned, straight from the source: the Celebrity Silhouette features a host of industry-first venues and experiences within The Lawn Club, including the interactive “Lawn Club Grill,” where guests can select and grill their own meats side-by-side with Celebrity’s expert chefs, or have them cooked to order; the relaxing, private, wi-fi-equipped cabanas called “The Alcoves”; “The Porch,” a breezy, casual dining spot offering sandwiches, coffees and captivating views of the sea and the ship’s lush lawn, and “The Art Studio,” where vacationers can bring out their inner artist. The ship also will present another entirely new venue, “The Hideaway,” an intimate, quiet space reminiscent of a childhood tree house.
